IS250 Manual Transmission Unusual Gear Shifting Noises
Hey -
For the longest time I have been noticing some unusual clanking/grinding noises in my Lexus IS250 Manual Transmission.
Examples:
- Shifting from First gear to Second gear
- Stop to First gear
- Down shifting from Second gear to First gear and Third gear to Second gear
- Coming to a stop when in Second gear or First gear
For some reason there is an unusual noise when I am going through any of these actions. The noises consist of grinding / clanking etc...
Anyone able to confirm this?
I have brought into the dealership, but they are absolutely no help.
Another thing I have noticed is when I turn I hear a clanking and rattling noise... Any possibilities on this?

I am in Nor Cal - In the North Bay...
I am going Christmas Shopping tomorrow, and I am going to drop by the dealership.
If you don't mind, is it alright if I used your input on this thread at the dealership?
It is ridiculous... I didn't buy a new car to have to get a new tranny put in after 10k miles.

That sucks.....I hope it works out for you. I honestly haven't experienced what you are describing....my shifting is pretty smooth (knock on wood).
Also not sure about the rattling/clanking when you turn.....does it happen at all speeds, and no matter how much or little you turn?

Yea I have that clutch chattering sound too. I usually hear it 1st to 2nd but I heard it the other day in 5th at 45 mph. I guess low RPM's is what causes it.

Well, at least it'll be easy to reproduce just driving around the dealer's lot. Good luck on getting everything fixed.

There are a few threads from this past year discussing the noise/shift feel you describe. One owner had the tranny replaced only to have the sounds return. The feeling is that these are a symptom of the design of the tranny (which has fewer parts than their previous manuals).
Good luck!

I to and having issues with shifting from 1st to 2nd gear as most described it, it sounds kinda like a grinding noise I was curious if anyone knows how to fix it and if an isf transmission would fit in the 250? I really enjoy the car seeing as I just bought it but really don't enjoy how the shifting feels.
