Default The most gallons you have pumped into your fuel tank

I know it has been discuss on this forum before. Is the stated gas tank size of 17.1 gallons is the actual real volume.

I was driving my car the other day drove it down to 0 miles on the range - then drove it for another 10 miles. Filled up the tank - and it came out to 15.1 gallons. Thats still almost 2 gallons shy of the listed volume.

I was wondering what is the highest gallon anyone has ever filled their gas tank with.

BTW - I still haven't seen the final verdict. Does any one know if the tank does really hold 17.1 gallons?

Lexus did say that they have a 2 gallon reserve...meaning it will hit zero miles when its hits 15.1 gallons if the tank is actually 17.1gallons...

16.634 is the most I've put in mine. That was pretty much 42 highway miles from it hitting 0 for me.

I'm still wondering why anyone wouldn't believe the stated manufacturer's specifications, where it clearly states that the fuel tank capacity is 17.2 gallons...

All I know is, when the car's fuel tank dips below 1/4, I can feel it's not as powerful when compared to full.

I beg to differ on that one. If that was the case then why would the guys at the track run 1/8th tank and getting 13.089 #'s? I know it is to save weight, but if it compromised power then noblody would do it. The fuel pump is gonna pump the same regardless, unless it is so low that it starts to spudder. Which in our case 2.1 gallons after it says 0 miles to empty.

Are you being serious? The car's horsepower and torque are not dependent on a full tank of gas. Weight slows down a car, and one gallon of gas weighs betwen 5.8 and 6.5 pounds. That's around 103 pounds, just from a full tank of gas. Running on 1/4 tank reduces that weight to around 26 pounds, which should never result in your car feeling less "powerful".

I've never been able to put the rated quantity of fuel in any car I've had even if it was already trying to stall on me.

^ Did you top it off? I've always wondered if the fuel filler pipe's volume is included in the rated capacity. Personally, I don't think it should be included since it's a bad idea to top it off.
