Default Rear wheel well - felt lining

I just washed my baby for the first time, and noticed that the rear wheel wells are lined with some sort of felt material. Just wondering if this is new for '08. It it some sort of sound-deadening material? If it's been on the IS since '06, to '06 owners: how has it help up with road grime, rocks, debris, etc? Any tips on cleaning it?

yeah its been around since the '06. Not sure why they chose that material..it really sucks to clean. Can't really wash it due to the texture of the material. Last year when I went on my **** cleaning spree I used a tire brush to clean it the best I could.

It's also a magnet for having things like leaf debris stick to it..so this time of year it isn't easy to clean

It's nothing really "new". The previous gen ES's have it too.

To clean: I just spray some tire foam on it (same as what I do for regular plastic liners), and use a brush to get out any debris if needed.

The felt is used to 'absorb' water that splashes from driving.

Ya, my 06 has it. Still think its kinda odd, tends to get stuff stuck in it, specially around this time of year (leaves).
