IS350 vs. modded E46 M3
This isn't a race post, but simply a fun interaction I had with a modded (suspension and exhaust at least) M3.
So, we (myself, g/f, 2 large dogs, and the accompanying luggage for a week of travel) were driving between LA and San Francisco this weekend and were lucky enough to find a travel buddy. He was driving by himself in his bimmer and we did a bunch of 80 to 130+ runs. Let me just say that it's amazing that with all of the extra weight in our car, we could still pull on the M3! I knew that our IS was quick, but I didn't expect that sort of acceleration against a worthy adversary with an extra 350 pounds.

Keep in mind the 3-series wasn't especially fast prior to the current gen models...
the E46 M3, stock, was only marginally faster than a stock IS350 while being a LOT more expensive... the non-M3 E46 was WAY WAY slower than the IS350.
Keep in mind too a lot of E46 drivers put M3 badges on their non-M3 cars :P

4.9 or less? Let's not exaggerate to make the point. 4.9 is the lowest published 0-60 figure I've ever seen on the IS350. Most of the others are mid to low 5s, e.g. Car and Driver 5.1, Motor Trend 5.5, Edmunds 5.6, Lexus' own figure 5.3.

At the risk of exaggerating, I've seen folks on here mention 1320' times as low as 13.2. Either they are running from 0-60 faster than 4.9, or their cars are pulling very hard from 80 - 110.

And, again, it might've just been a normal E46 with M3 badges stuck on it. Which'd make it a LOT slower than an IS350, even if the E46 had aftermarket exhaust and suspension. (the fact these were aftermarket makes it even more likely it wasn't really an M3 IMHO).
There's exactly this kinda "M3" in the parking lot at work here BTW.

I'm certain that in this case it was an M3 (heard it, saw it, drove next to it for 200 miles). Plus there isn't an E46 that can pull that hard except the M3.
Now, you guys have got me thinking. I may take my buddies E46 with SMG to the track and run the two vehicles next to each other to see how they do.
