Not a very scientific test. WAY to many variables in your example. Interesting, but certainly no proof that the V1 is any better than the Escort.

You can get a hard wire kit from Passport for ~$20.
I've been known to splice and solder the connectors works fine either way. Wires are thin though it you might be more comfortable buying the cable.

I run it from the center of the windshield high enough to clear the wipers.
I run the wire between the windshield and dash, gently push it in place with a screw driver, run it over to the drivers pillar. After trying to pop the trim on the pillar I would suggest just pushing it between the dash and the trim piece. The window trim no longer comes off completely because of the airbag stored in there. I pop the trim along the side of the dash and route the wire down and over to the center console and wire it into the cigarette lighter.

Should be able to do it all in about an hour.

Whether its scientific or not, I'll tell you that without a question in my mind, the V1 paid for itself in Ohio alone, and I never even lived there.
Between I-80, I-70, and I-75, I've been hit by troopers with laser at least 5 times. Not a single ticket.

I have owned two V1's with my first purchase in 2000. I have to say, I have been puled over 51 times (mostly fix its or warnings) since receiving my license in 1992. Only two tickets though while owning a V1. One was from a CHP plane who got a eight car group on I5 doing 88 in a 70 and the second was on a country road from a sheriff ho claims to have used radar, although I had no V1 confirmation of the radar. I really wonder if he was lying. Usually (particularly in CA) the KA works great and gives me plenty of warning. I like that I can send in my V1 for upgrades too.

I have used the Escort Solo II and love it. Who cares about wires if none exist.

Do it right, go K40 Calibre!

Integrated radar detectors are clean and sleek. Yeah, and expensive!

changing batteries sucks....and it eats them pretty quick. I had a Solo II for a while -- it was ok but the X50 offers much greater range.

anyway --- why use batteries when its so easy to hardwire it and have no problems.

hahaha I vouch!!!!

I love my X50. I will be experimenting with Uniden Bearcat units in the near future such as the BCT-10 and BCT-12 that should be used on highways or areas that are away from large cities. Do a quick google search to see how these scanners work.

Do any of you guys use the remote display with your V1?

I've got the V1 mounted high just to the left of the rear view mirror, and the remote display with mute button under the hood over the instrument cluster.

I've got a 8500 (in the girlfriend's truck) and used to have a Solo 2. I drive all over the southeast for my company and after using all three my personal vehicle will never have anything but the V1.

Just because he's looking doesn't mean he's shooting. I've similar experiences locally w/ laser. They do watch traffic and pick and choose, since most cars are besting the speed limit.
