Default 3M Clear bra: New 14 mil thickness !

According to 3M's website, their protective film comes in two thicknesses.

Q. Is Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film available in 3-mil thickness?

A. This product is available in two thicknesses only: 8 mils (a 6-mil film base with 2-mil adhesive) and 14 mils (a 12-mil film base with 2-mil adhesive.)

Q. When should 14-mil Scotchgard™ Paint Protect Film be used?

A. The 14-mil film should be used on flat or smooth surfaces with greater exposure to stone chips, bug damage or weathering, such as racing and off-road vehicles.

VentureShield uses 7510 – 8mil (150 micron) or 7514 – 15mil (300 micron).

Does anyone here knows what thickness installers are using in our cars?
Anyone have any experience using both types of films thickness ?

Thanks,

Warrionex

I've never actually used one before, but I just got my IS 2 days ago, so I'm definitely wanting to put one on very very soon - I'm going to have to do some reading, first, so this will help.

Thickness matters not much; both 3M and Ventureshield have the best qualities in the market. The installation job matters much more than the film, and I am sure good installer will only use top quality films.

Will a installer adapt new product for your car? I guess not; also a good installer will not use "pre-cut template" because these computer template files won't fit well.

Good luck with your searching

Good info, thanks. Can anyone advise of a good installer in South Florida (closer to Boca Raton the better). Thanks...
