Default Shifting **** Vs. Paddle Shifts (Anyone realize this...)

Did anyone realize while driving in sport mode, if you use your **** shifter (up/down) rather than the paddles, it seems to shift a fraction of a second quicker. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this too?

It does. I read it somewhere in a car review also.

Yeah i've noticed this as well. It's more comfortable for me to use the shifter rather than the paddle shifters since I usually always have one hand on the shifter.

I never use the paddle shifters...they are worthless. I always use the shifter.

yeap. I noticed this while taking the car to redline. I noticed when doing so, if I use paddle, I shift about 500rpm's early to avoid fuel cut off, if using the ****, I can shift virtually instantly, or maybe just 100-200rpm's before to be safe.

I really wish the paddle shifting didn't have such a delay. It shifts much slower than a driver would shift manually, atleast slower than me.

I think of it as Push Up to upshift and pull down to downshift... pretty easy if you ask me. Maybe that's because I've never driven a manual. My dad's TL Type-S is the same way.

if i recall, some BMWs are shifted from left (-) and right (+) on the shifter, not up and down, thats pretty strange, I was doing this at Taste of Lexus on a car, I think it was a 3

What tiptronic car is the other way around? All autos I've seen with manual shifting are to be pushed up for upshifting and down for downshifting.

Shifting up for upshift and the opposite is the same way the GT1 and GT2 classes do in the ALMS races.

The car isn't supposed to let you do that. If a downshift would cause the car to red-line, it supposed to just beep to let you know it can't downshift yet.

^ That's what he means by the chirp... the beep. I don't think he actually redlined, probably just when the indicator goes from yellow to red. Done that plenty of times and I'm not even at 3,000km.

I agree, the stick is a bit quicker. Not that it matters in everyday driving though. I use sport mode 100% of the time and use the stick 95% of the time and the paddles maybe 5%. The paddles are a really nice bonus to those of us who use the sport mode all the time but certainly not necessary.
