Default Cracked Oil Filter Housing

So I brought my car into the dealership the other day as the Check Engine Light and Check VSC light came on (for the second time since I've owned the car) and the dealership comes back saying that my oil filter housing cap had a hairline crack. I go back and take a look and sure enough it's leaking a little bit of oil. I do change my own oil and never torque the cap that tight. The service tech said he changed the oil as part of resetting the CEL and when he took it off the lift and drove it out of the garage, noticed that oil was leaking. However, when I brought it in, there was no oil leaking in my garage or they did not notify me that oil was leaking everywhere while I was waiting in the service area. Do you think the service tech could have cracked it when changing the oil? Do these things crack that easily? The cost is $85 and isn't covered under warranty. I'm thinking about bringing up my suspicions to my service advisor (car is sitting at the dealership waiting for the part to come in). What do you guys think?

i'd try to fight for warranty since it lexus is supposed to have superior customer service. you can say that that should be a covered since its a defect that the housing would break that easily.

if there was never a leak before then most likely the tech over torqued it.

I just got my oil changed today and the service guy told me the housing can be cracked easily. He had seen others crack the housing while changing their own filter.
Fight the dealer ship if they were the last to touch the car. Are you using the tool required to remove the housing?

What was the code for th CEL, because unless it was for a fuel injector that was stuck wide open I can't think of a good reason to change the oil as part of the code clearing process and also if they didn't notice any oil leaking beforehand and then they changed the oil and now you have a major oil leak I would have to say that they are at fault here.

I think they said that the fuel was too rich. Same explanation as the first time. However, they said there was an updated TSB from the last time the CEL came on. I'll put up a fight. Thanks for the advice.

if you get your oil change done there all the time then they should replace for you without any charge. it's not your fault.

aslo, can you try take a pic of how the crack looks like?

Anyone know where we can get the proper tool to remove the filter housing? Normal oil filter wrench didn't work too good the last time around.
