Yes, they are made of metal. Heat-Treated, Black Oxide.

Let me guess: you were using one of those stamped metal "F" size wrenches from Pep Boys (or one of the other automotive stores)?

Been there, done that (with a different car that takes a similar size filter).
The TOY640 doesn't have that problem.

You're right, i started off using generic ones which started stripping. Then i bought the TOY640 but things just went from bad to worse. Maybe if i used the TOY640 from the get-go I wouldn't of had any problems. In any case I'm perfectly happy with the band wrench now.

Both the TOY640 and the RiteFit look like they will work. The 640 is much more expensive though. Both are sized correctly and made for the Lexus, not a fits all piece of junk. A band wrench should work also.

i bought my oil filter cap wrench at Autozone i think or Pep Boy...i'm not sure. I cannot remember, but I do remember it was only $3-$5.

I almost bought the one off Lexus which was $$$$$. Good thing I checked the local store.

The problem with the one at autozone/pepboy is its 65mm where as the lexus one is 64mm. So it's slightly looser when your trying to remove/tighten the cap causing it to get stuck sometimes.

i got my toy640 on ebay for like $7 shipped so its all good.

i use a band wrench also. worked at a gas station during my college days and i was told not to use the wrench to tighten the filter which can lead to overtightening then become a bear to remove on the next oil change. just prime the seal with oil and hand tighten. never had any problems or complaints.

I just got one like this type at Wal-Mart for like $3. Works great when it's a little harder to get off. Then I just hand tighten.

Do the IS350 and IS250 have different oil filter housings? My guess is no, since I have used the same $3 filter wrench from Walmart on IS250 and RX350(same engine as IS350?)
