I like most music (except country and the usual crap). But in the car I like harder stuff. At this point I basically run 3 mp3 disks full of my greatest hits) so you will find things such as:
1) Rock (ac~dc, Metallica, U2, def Leppard, Nirvana, Aerosmith, Billy Idol, rush, Bush, NiN, GnR, God Smack, Disturbed, Foreigner, Everclear, Faith no More, Creed, Van Halen etc...)
2) Techno/Dance (DJ Quicksilver and mis better techno)
3) older school rap (NWA, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Snoop, Dr Dre, RunDMC, Eminem.
4) Lots of mis 80's music (yes Michael Jackson)
My lighter music for rips will have music like Sting, Police, Teh Bee-Gees, Billy Joel, Boston, Brian Adams, Chicago, Depeche Mode, Floyd, Don Henly, Love Boy, Duran Duran, The Eagles, Elton John, Madonna, etc...

I consider some techno songs almost materpeices of music like Classical.
Try DJ Quicksilver: Free, Amino, Planet love, Cosmophobia, Escape to Paradise.
Sandstorm is always a favorite.

In the mornings, I listen to my favorite radio program "The Mark and Brian Show" on 95.5 KLOS(SoCal's one and only classic rock station, btw).
Then in the afternoon, I just put my iPod in shuffle, and listen to my favorite artists such as Radiohead() and B.R.M.C.
At night, I tune into XM radio channel 4, which is music from the 1940's.
It's really soothing, and it makes me feel like I'm actually taking advantage of the free 3-month subscription .

And sunglasses - one must always wear sunglasses when listening to techno, preferably at night with extremely tinted windows.
Honestly, I like rock/indie sounds (Mountain Goats, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, etc...). Something with lyrics, with an interesting sound that changes pace and doesn't sound "over-produced."
