Always true.

FWIW I have never had to use a factory scan tool to bleed an ABS system...
You don't NEED to use a factory scan tool, yes, but you SHOULD. If you don't, you leave the potential to trap air in the ABS controller itself, which would later be introduced into the braking system, etc.

I also think that with most OEM brake systems, it'd be hard to figure out if there was a small amount of air in the system, due to the pedal feel changes introduced by vacuum brake boosters, rubber flex lines, etc. On a racecar, where you've designed the braking system and pedal effort from scratch, with no brake booster, braided stainless flex hoses, etc., its easy to tell if there is still air, because it yields a lower pedal effort than expected.

Yes, you do need the factory scan tool. RTFM. It's very clear you'll need to actuate the solenoid valves in the ABS if you get air in them, and there's no way to do this without the scan tool.

If you do get air that is trapped in the valves that you can't get out by normal bleeding then yes you will need the scan tool to actuate the system, however I have never had the need to do this, and there are ways around using the scanner, I don't care what the effen manual says, just because it is writen in the manual doesn't make it 100 percent correct or mean that there isn't an alternative method. According to the manual the first step to starting your car is to apply the parking brake..yet the car will still start without the parking brake applied.....hhhmmmm

Torque specs would be helpful.

If you change the pads without removing the caliper, then there aren't any torque specs. If you do remove the caliper, the the specs are 78 NM or 58 ft-lbs.

OK. But when there is a simple work around, they give it. They may refer to a shorting wire as an SST, but they give a work around. There is NO workaround for the ABS on the ISx50. I've also tried to argue this point with a brake engineer, and lost. If you think you're smarter than the guys who design and build these things, rock on. I only posted this so people would understand there is a risk the car may be unsafe to drive if they get air in the ABS system and it may require a tow to a dealer. There is no argument about that.

unless they're horribly bad, the spring clip and the pin can be re-used.
