Default 2006 Nav Disc in 2007 ISx50 DOES NOT WORK!

I tried to insert the 2006 Version 5 Nav Disc into the 2007 isx50 Navigation this evening. Wow! What a nightmare!

The Nav was unable to boot the disc and in result, displayed "COULD NOT READ DISK, PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DEALER"

The all buttons on the right does not work! I was unable to eject the disc from the Nav. It just displays the ERROR.

So what did i do?

COmpletely removed the whole Nav Unit from the Vehicle.

Removed the Nav DVD ROM

Disassembled the Nav DVD ROM

Manually Removed the Disc

Manually Inserted the OEM Disc

Reboot!

And it was fixed!

Wow.. this was such a nightmare. Would not do this ever again! I urge you guys not to even try. It will not have a positive outcome! BEWARE!

And you're surprised?!? As I said all along, you cannot backgrade versions.

This is the way it works on a lot of other cars, too. I remember on my Acura, once you installed the latest firmware, anything with the older firmware would no longer work. It shouldn't destroy your system but it won't function because there is really no need to go back. That is unless you don't like the new version or for the Lexus, you want to try to go back to get the override.

And just to clarify, I don't think it's the actually disc that isn't working but the firmware not being compatible. And the firmware is installed into the nav via the disc (I think). If someone could just create a simple compatibility chart based and clarify how to invoke a firmware upgrade (or not) for the 06 (07s are unable to downgrade), that would be helpful.

You gave up to easily! When it says "Could not read disc, please consult your dealer", that's the key for your to unplug the power to the nav unit, let it reboot with the V5 (2006) disc, and it will load the old firmware into the nav unit. This has been confirmed to work in other threads:

I would have ejected the original disc, removed the fuses for the nav to clear the memory, then put the fuses and the older disc back in. I'd bet it will boot without issue. However, you will lose everything you had stored in the nav system.

I did this once because the bluetooth was not doing what I expected it to do after I changed the BT name for the car. It had worked, then it stopped working (still don't know why it won't work with anything other than the default handsfree name), so I removed the power to the unit and reset everything. When it comes up, it goes through a very extended boot process, and it appears to reload everything from the DVD. It takes a good 2 minutes to fully initialise. You then have to reset everything you had programmed, and I mean EVERYTHING.

Why would you want the old disk in the 2007 model?

I myself am trying to find a way I can get the 2007 disk, its surely better right?

Are the disks them selfs copy protected?

First: No discussion of copying discs illegally (e.g. - Getting the new 2007 disc without buying it) is allowed on the forum. So, don't ask or the mods will close the thread.

Second: We only want to load the FIRMWARE from the 2006 disc, but still continue to use the 2007 disc. Basically, they either removed or changed the override sequence from the 2006 disc to the 2007 disc. We know the sequence to activate the override on the 2006 disc, but not on the 2007 disc. So, you cut power to the nav unit, put in a 2006 disc, it will load the firmware from the 2006 disc, then, you put in the 2007 disc WITHOUT cutting power so it will forever use the newer map data from the 2007 disc.

As far as we can tell, the firmware from 2006 to 2007 is basically unchanged except for a few new voice commands and the lack/change of the override sequence.

The 2007 map data is significantly updated from 2006.

Anyway, all of this will be moot if someone discovers the override sequence on the 2007 disc.

OK, here's some valuable info that I've discovered!

I have been copying several NAV DVD's with success. Then I tried to
make modifications to the LOADING.KWI file. This same situation happened
to me when I inserted the disk with the modified file. The disk would
not eject and the display said to contact your dealer. It turns out,
there is an easy solution that no one has dicovered yet.

To start my testing of the modified disk, I first ejected the original
factory DVD. Then I removed the fuse from under the drivers side of the
dash labeled TV-1 for 1 minute. (Phone book and radio presets did not
disapear) Then I turned on the accessory power and inserted my
modified disk. Normaly if it does not like the disk, it will eject it saying
that it is unreadable. It has done this on several of my bad copy attempts
in the past. This time with the modified disk, it would not eject the disk.
It just said to see your dealer. I tried to go in through the service
menu using the "lights on and off sequence", but there was no button
in there to eject the disk. So I thought to myself, what would a dealer do
to eject the disk. Certainly they would not dissasemble the NAV unit.
So I tried to tap the screen on the upper right then the lower right
twice in a row. Sure enough the disk ejected. I was so thrilled to
discover this that I reincerted the modified disk again just to try out
my new find.

Hope this helps someone in a big dilema.

I don't believe that making backups is an "illegal copy" is it???

I think what the mod meant was getting copies of DVD's you don't own... Like for example, if someone owns a 2006 and asks someone to burn a 2007 disc...

We are just talking about burning copies of discs we already own, and mixing and matching files... Totally legal I believe...

Kensteele, I undersatnd your point and am not trying to do anything
illegally. I'm not advocating any illegal acts, or offering any services.

I don't think it's illegal for somone to purchase two versions
of the NAV software and expect to use either whenever they wish.
If they want to use an older version, that is their decission. Am I not
allowed to use an old road map if I choose to do so. I paid for it.

I'm just trying to help somone out that might run into a problem
with a legitimately owned disk that they are trying to insert.

As for the disks that I create, I keep all experimenting
to myself and do not profit from it in any way. I am allowed to do
whatever I want with the electronics in my vehicle as long as I don't
break any laws.
I paid $40K+ for my car and if I want to drive it off a cliff, Lexus
could care less.

I understand that you are just doing your job as a moderator. Part of
that is staying ahead of the ball. That's a good thing,
and I intend to stay within forum guidelines while helping
someone that obviously had a big problem on their hands.

sorry i'm not a moderator, i just posted that i believe the discussion is borderline against the rules. afaik, there is no legal way to copy the disc and altering and modifying the files on it...even if you "own" it. you cannot "create" your own discs, that's illegal. but again like i said, it is borderline and the real mods will have to make the determination, what i say isn't always so. i always think of it this way, if you can't tell lexus what you are doing or if you can bring whatever you have into the lexus dealership and ask for their help with it, it's probably not a good idea. just my thoughts.
