For the same reason that people with the sport package want illuminated door sills, and the same reason why Lux owners want the sport pedals, becuase it looks better I personally would have liked to have the sport package with the wood trim. Then I could have the nicer looking interior and a better handling car. I couldn't have the best of both worlds so I went with the Lux package and added the sport pedals.

what i would have liked to see was the wood trim in various other colors, like grey or black burlwood, i have seen it on other cars, i have to admit i did not like it at first but it looks nice in the the black interior of my car, and atleast its tastefully done and not on the centerstack or around the vents......

The wood trim makes the IS seem more luxury than sport. But the sport models give it a more "sporty" look. Its obvious that the wood trim makes a car look more luxury. Many of us, like me, hate the wood trim because it takes away from the IS being sports car. The bad thing about the Sports trim is that its made of plastic and scratches pretty easily. I guess we cant get what we all want. And yes, you can detach the trim by taking some parts out. I was able to take it off when hacking my Nav

One thing I find that really funny. I currently drive the 2004 Acura TL. In that car as you probably know the trim is real aluminum and looks really good in fact. Many people with plastic metallic trim complain that it scratches too easily or that it isn't real aluminum. But owners of the TL complain that the real aluminum dents really easily. Many owners hit the trim with the seat belt as they connect their seat belt to put it on. Thus they end up with dents and stuff. i'm not sure what type of trim would make everyone happy. There is always something wrong with everything. It's hard to keep us car owners happy...LOL. But I am hopeful that my new IS350 will keep me happy.

Whoa rookie, time to do some growing up here. If you think the 'ladies' like you for your trim, just wait til they separate you from your cash & youthful enthusiasm. I have the cashmere interior and I bet I can still whup your butt . . .
Lexus could make a real nice dark black birds-eye maple wood trim (like some past non-IS Sportdesign models) that would look fine with a Sport package, My personal opinion is that the color they have choosen (Auburn) was a bit too reddish and only matches really well with the black interior. However, a real brushed aluminum trim like that Audi uses in the A3 3.2 quattro model would look real sharp with the Lexus interior, particularly Sport models with black interiors.

IMO, when a manufacturer uses words like metallic-look, wood-grain, simulated-whatever the little red light in my head marked CHEESY starts to flash. And I'm not saying every simulated finish looks bad, it is just that way too many of them in fact do.

I agree completely. Although the trim in the 2IS is indeed made of wood (albeit a paper-thin veneer) it does still look a bit plasticy, and it's WAAY too red. If they would have put the Black wood that goes in the GS into the 2IS, I think it would have looked AWESOME and I would have been all over that...

The wood trim looks really great with the black interior.

You are wrong. It's just like the Acura. The metallic trim in the Lexus is STANDARD. You are paying more for the wood!

BASE IS = Metallic trim
Premium Package = Wood trim
Luxury Package = Wood trim
Sport Package = NO TRIM CHANGE = Metallic Trim

i find the wood trim to ruin the consistancy of the interior color trim, i mainly want to see black and silver only in an interior, for the IS they have that metallic color thats fine but when you add in the wood trim thats color/finish #4, 3 was already pushing it

My initial thought was "hmmm, that looks alright...". When my wife first saw it she said, "Wow, I love the wood trim, looks very nice!". Keep in mind ours has the all black leather interior. I'm not 100% sure which I would go with. I went with the wood on our BMW 330i because 5 out of 5 people I asked liked the wood look better than the metal look. A friend of mine even upgraded the metal look after for a couple hundred bucks (or so).

Actually there's a difference:

Base IS metallic trim is a different color than the Sport Package metallic trim. The Sport Pkg is a aluminum/silver color, which I wish I had.

Really?? Hmmm, interesting... Well, either way, the base trim is NOT wood, that's for sure...
