I have never heard a cat make noise on warm up. Cool off, lots of times, never on warm up.
Then you've never owned a C-230 Kompressor. Every morning on start up the cat would snap, crackle and pop for about a minute. Horrible sounding noise unless you know what it is and even than it's not pleasing to the ear. Actually I seldom heard the cracking noises on shut down but always on the first start of the day. Nature of the beast I guess...

IS350ty, have you done any modifications to your IS?
no my car is 100% stock! But im worried if this is a real conern. Its hard to duplicate the problem with the dealer, so i dont really want to waste my time.

yea, i know what you mean. this morning... it didnt make the sound. i would really prefer for it to be a cosntant thing. that way the dealer wont BS with me. im gonna have them keep the car for a few days and only start it up in the morning if it doesnt do it when i get there. that or make a recording or something.
i get it the first start-up of the day almost everyday and sometimes i'll get it again during the day if the car has been sitting for +/- 4 hours after being fully warmed up.
whatever the dealer put it in @ my 5k service. my 10k will be coming up in about a month or so.
im gonna call the dealer today and set-up an appointment. whatever that noise is... it cant be good.
I'm willing to bet they are putting non-synthetic oil in the car. I'm curious to see what would happen if it was switched out. Maybe nothing, but ya never know and it couldn't hurt to try.
I got my car back today. Turns out the noise was from a faulty VVT-i controller. Here's the specifics on the service order.
Faulty VVT-i OCV on right hand side of the engine. Found no9ise coming from right side intake VVT-i gear. Removed intake, right-side valve cover, timing chains. Replaced right side VVT-i camp gear. Let the car sit overnight and check for abnormal noise. O.K. No engine noise. Test drive vehicle and check for all DTC code = OK.
Parts:
(1) 11213-31040 Gasket, Cylinder
(1) 17176-31060 Gasket, Air Surge
(1) 13050-31070 Gear Assy, Camsha
(2) 00272-SLLC2 Super Long Live C
All covered under warranty.
But alas, I picked up the car and lo and behold..... a giant gouge on the front passenger side door, dead center of the panel. 1 step forward...
I'm taking it back by today to have them look at it. They said they could touch it up but it's gonna require more than that...
EDIT: Update. Took it back by the dealer and the service manager, Lloyd, said he'd make it 100% along with a loaner while it was away. Kudos to him and his staff. This is exactly the reason I bought a Lexus and not another Honda or Chevy. Service and a customer-focused attitude like that is what justifies my paying a premium for regular service at the dealership.
I also get this sound on start up, its been happening more frequently (as it is getting colder in the DC metro area). At first I thought it was the motor the telescopes the steering wheel outwards, but thats probably not it. I guess this is a pretty common problem.

yeah i know wat sound ur talkin about too..it only comes once in a while, in the morning only is when i noticed it, before my car warms up but yeah wen i heard it the first time i turned my car off to see if i was jus hearing things or if it was the car then wen i start it up again i dont hear the sound but i knew it was from the car.but nothing seems to br wrong with the car after that so i duno if its bad or not.most likely is bad tho. Caymandiver wassup man. so u been puttin 10w-30 i heard that 5w-30 fully synthetic is good enough but i heard u can substitute it wit 10w-30 i jus didnt know it was good to keep on puttin it in.does that do anything good for the car? i jus been puttin MOBILE1 5W-30 FULLY SYNTHETIC i jus bring my own case to the dealer and they do it for me tho.
well, its a possibility that it can be the oil. the car never made the noise before the 5k service. i dont remember when it started though. i doubt it has to do with using non-synthetic vs. synthetic though.
i do plan on swapping to synthetic... but by that time, the dealer better have figured out what the hell is wrong.
