I guess I haven't learned my lessons yet. Hopefully they won't be painful ones. It's hard for me to pay extra $ for simple oil changes and services any good mechanic can do. I would only take my car in to Lexus for the major check ups, but not oil changes. Thanks though!

Lexus of Glendale is $179... I was extremely shocked at the price. I think I will stop going here from now on. I expected something in the $50-70 range for a simple 10k serivce.

Man, screw these overpriced dealers. I will be changing oil and rotating my tires myself for less than $30. Amazing that they charge these crazy prices for the easiest tasks...

Lexus of Westport (CT): $140.
Since tires can't be rotated on an IS350, this means mostly an oil change.
Of course synthetic is an extra $50, so we're talking $190 here!

I called a Toyota dealership: $25 for an oil change, $35 if it's synthetic.

I guess I'll be going to Toyota.

I worked for a company that built only car dealerships and every single dealer cared about only two things...

lot space
number of service bays

At my last job the dealer told us that for every bay they added he made $250,000 more per year. This was a Toyota dealership. Each dealermakes on average 80% to 90% of the overall income of the deralership through the service department.

I'm doing my own 10k/oil change. Then again, I'm a monkey wrencher. 5W20 Mobil 1 synthetic for $4/qt (bought 2 x 10qts, will only use ~7) at Walmart + $7 for oil filter = 7x$4 + 7 = $35. That is with synthetic. I'm sure the Toyota price of $35 is using conventional oil. $60-$100 services at Lexus, no thank you.

I am a little confused about servicing and such. Every 5k miles seems like a bit much to me but this is my first Lexus. I did the 15k service at the dealership but just did an oil change at 20k. I'm approaching 25k now and wondering if I should just do another oil change to get me to 30k (which I think is a worthwhile service?) or if I should do the 25k service?

So my car is at 12K miles now and 10K service is overdue. I am just too lazy and too cheap to bring my car to the lexus. So, I called Oakland Lexus and they said 10K service is 279$! I was like umm so what do you do at 10K service.... and she goes... it includes oil change, oil filter change, top off fluid, and guess what she says after that... check tire pressure, walk around the car and do visual inspection, check head lights (i dont know what they check), tail light inspection, under body inspection, check AC, and the list goes on and on and on with those useless junks.

So, I decided to go to downtown Berkeley Toyota and ask them to change the oil for me. (36$) and here is what I was told. " We don't touch Lexuses. Toyota and Lexus sleep together in the same bed but they don't talk. And we have no idea what parts they use for their motor."

So, I decided to try Oakland Broadway Toyota. I called them and ask them if they service Lexus and I was told that they do. So, I went there (express lube) and I was told to be back in an hour.

To my dismay, when I went back in an hour, I saw my car on the lift and there were like 6 people looking at my car and pointing stuff underneath my car. and after a while, I was informed that Lexus has decided to change the engine on this car and they have no idea what parts they have used for the oil filter, and my best bet would be to take the car back. I thought WTF! you just wasted an hour of my time. But I didn't want them to change the oil anyway after their stupid service. So, I took my car back.

So, after numerous tires, I still haven't done 10k service yet.

The solution I've come up with is to DIY! I just ordered 5 oil filter and bought a pack of mobile 1 from costco!
I took my 350 to Toyota 101 in Redwood City and they changed the oil for $30. They did have to order the filter, but they knew which one it was. They wanted $89 for a 10k service. Putnam Lexus which is about a mile away wanted $60 for the oil change and $200-somthing for the 10k service.

I find it ammusing how there is such discrepency between dealers, both local and non-local.

Just got the 10k service done with synthetic oil... $169.94 before tax at Hoffman in CT. I'm going to skip the 15k service and just get an oil change at 20k.

Tustin Lexus charged me $72 for an oil change - I'll be taking my IS to the local toyota dealer from now on. Tustin Infiniti charges me $35 for my G35 coupe. Figured it would be about the same from the Lexus dealer.

Figure I would throw in an updated price since no one has posted here in a while. Prestige Lexus in Ramsey, NJ wants $129 + tax for the 10k service on my IS250 AWD. My local mechanic, who I've used for years on prior cars, owns a Lexus as well - I'm going to ask how much he would charge for an oil change and tire rotation...

EDIT: My local guy will do an oil change and rotation for about $70, OTD. Still high, but at least a $60 savings...

Argue about the tire rotation. I did at my local dealer here in DFW TX, and tire rotations are free, 2 balances (all 4 tires) a year are free, and they will guareentee the alignment for 18 months.

Granted, I have purchased two cars from them, one new, one CPO, and one had over 150K on it before I traded it in, and it had all the service done there. It was a 2002 GS4 and I did call Toyota for several various services, like the 90K and 120K, but they said they just flat didnt have the parts for that car. They did for the ES, and some of the GS300 parts, but not the IS, any SUV, or the GS4.
