Going over 5000 miles before first oil change
i reached 5000 miles just now, my oil change is not scheduled till saturday. I estimate to have ~150 miles to drive by saturday...should i be concerned about anything? I know if this was my old car, I wouldnt care. but i'm not sure if I should go ahead and pay for a oil change today (at a local car shop) or if its ok to wait until saturday...

Your car will blow up if you don't change the oil at exactly 5000 miles...
If you change it less, at 4999 or below, or more, at 5001 or more, then your IS will be a total loss...
Oh, btw, try using the search function next time, this EXACT same question has been asked before...

That sucks i dont know ihad mine done @ 3,500 miles.
Just being a new car i wanted to keep it working well i also swiched to synthetic i would consider it if I were you just incase you go a little over your changes.
when i worked for Lexus back in the day this was a big no no withe the ES they could and did have sludge problems you didnt want to miss those changes the IS has a differnt engine though.

5400 miles.
Kinda mad the engine didn't blow up. I wouldv'e bucked up for the 350 engine and strap it to my 6-speed manual. Probably about 3 launches then the clutch would have been gone.

i don't think it's a big deal.. some people skip the 5000 and wait till 7500 or 10000. 5000 miles can be interpreted differently depending on how those miles were driven too...

I used to know someone who own 80's something corolla. she've owned the car for almost 10 years or so and never changed the oil till i told her to do so. the car was running fine hahahah

As a rough rule of thumb, I change the oil +/- 1000 miles around each 5000 mile service. In other words, I would change it anytime between 4000 and 6000 miles on the 5K mile service. The only annoyance is the stupid maintenance light blinks and blinks until you have it serviced.

oh yeah... forgot about that annoying light... im only at 7600 right now, but i'd get it changed roughly every 5K just for consistency and so that annoying light doesn't come on. we don't like unnecessary lights...
