Default Installing rear fog light

I want to put in a rear fog light for my IS. It was really foggy it SF a few weeks ago and since it's getting close to the rainy season, I think that putting in a rear fog would be a good idea. Does anyone know if the IS in other countries have rear fogs? I took apart the trunk lining and took some pictures. Seems like that the inner red compartment is empty and may have been designed for a rear fog light. I'm thinking of drilling that round part out and putting in a bulb base.

Close up of the area to be drilled. The left wire goes to the back up light and the right round stub without wires goes into the empty compartment complete with ( I think) reflectors. It's the same on the other side so this may possibly turn into a 2 set of brake lights for some people

A rear fog light is a red light that is the same intensity as the brake lights when they're on. Except the rear fog is on permanently (on one side only)when driving during low visibility conditions like heavy rain or fog. You might have seen this on Volvos or Audis before

I see thanks for the info. You live Pacifica side? I used to live in South San Fran and it was only foggy if you traveled on the 35.

Yes..my IS has rear fog lights as stock. There is a button on the dash panel that switches it on. And as also mentioned, it is like having one side of your brake lights on. I know the Australian version definitely has it as oem. I will see if i can take pics of the owners manual tonight which describes it.

I am not sure if Austria has rear fogs as an oem feature, but I can assure you that Australia does.

Here are the pics from my owner's manual. I was mistaken about the location of the switch...it is actually on the indicator stalk.

Thanks guys for all the info! Now I know it's OEM I will contact an overseas dealer and see if I can order some stuff. But it's probably too complicated to make it exactly like OEM so I'll probably just wire a separate switch on the dash - lots of room on those panels anyways.

Pretty much all European cars have rear fogs... nothing new there.
