Default Puddle Lamp LED ?

I'm about to change the stock puddle lamp bulbs with LED's. Do you guys think I should use refractor or just regular LED's?

Thanks

regular led's won't really work cuz the way the bulb is positioned... it doesn't fire downwards. i have the refractors in mine and they're ok. don't really illuminate the ground much but it's a nice color. you can also get those expensive polarg leds... those are pretty darn bright.

if anyone can find some BRIGHT blue LEDs, hit me up.. cuz the ones i used arent that bright at all.. im using the blue high-powered leds from vleds.com and they arent that "high-powered" at all.. and im positive refractors are gonna be worse.

they're like 30 or so bucks for a pair i think. someone posted a link to an internet shop that had em in another thread. they're 194/168 size bulbs.

refractors will look a lot better than high-powered leds in the puddle lamps. i posted a pic of what the blue refractors looked like in the puddle lamps back in the lighting mod thread. i was actually happy with the light output and color but eventually switched em out to white refractors instead.

Default Puddle Lamps installed **pics**

So I finally installed LED's in the puddle lamps earlier tonight.

I bought these two types of LED's, both off ebay.

Regular LED Bulb

After installing one of each in both puddle lamps, the refractor bulbs shown a lot brighter than the regular LED bulb. Where as the regular bulb focused its light straight down and toward the car, the refractor bulb reflects light 2-3 feet away from the car and towards the ground by the car.

You can't really tell how good they look from the pics...

looks good silver! thanks for posting pics too

the main issue i see that people are having is that the LEDs aren't powerful enough to light up the ground. do those light up the ground like the stock puddle lamps do?

Oh yeah they do. As well as if not better than the OEM bulbs. I'm very pleased with how well the refractor bulb actually does its job and reflects light in all directions.

I actually had the refractor bulbs in as the parking lights, but they weren't giving off the effect I wanted, so I just swapped them out. I really like the change.

you know what...come to think of it, i used to own a 2006 Avalon, and it had puddle lights too. they had a white/blueish look to 'em.

i'm not sure what kind of bulbs they used, but someone might want to look into that

just thought i'd share. hope this helps!
