Default What kind of radar detector do you use in your IS? (merged threads)

With all the "speeding" and "0-60" and "my car is faster than yours" threads going on, I thought I would ask what people are using for radar detectors in your IS?

Does anyone have any opinions on which are the best (in your experience) as well as the most highly rated?

I live in SoCal so a trusty RD would be a nice addition to my IS gear on the 5 or 405 highways that I frequent...

I've also heard about people wiring their RD's to the car battery...I think that would be cool, and would definitely free up very valuable DC power ports...not to mention possibly clean up the wiring...

Lemme know!

Thanks,

Ed

I have the Passport 8500 X50. It cost $300, but it has saved me thousands over the past year!

I had the Passport 8500 X50 hardwired in my last car and I just haven't gotten around to installing it in the IS yet. But that thing picked up radar from miles ahead and saved me from quite a few tickets. And my favorite feature of that is that you can turn off X-Band(that is all of your false alarms) and on expert mode it will show you how many different signals it's picking up and what bands they are all at once.

Any good? Bluetooth technology is a little shaky, I've never seen it being used in radar detection devices.

Dave, thanks for the info... I guess it's because some of the threads are 1+ years old (many are 2+ years old), I thought I would revive this discussion. Maybe there are new products out there that we haven't heard about?

Is the Valentine One still the RD of choice? I heard it hasn't changed in 20 years?

I was going to do the K40 but I'm not sure if I want to spend $1300 on that. Actually, isn't the bluetooth like $1800?
