Lightbulb Check many times, cut once

Hello again all,

I think that this message is geared towards geooffers or anyone else you can chime in. I want to make sure I have the right plug and right wires before I make my cut. I am interested in the orange accessories +12v accessories wire and the blue camera lead wire. In the below plug picture, I have circled the plug that I think I am going to be working with. In the close up picture (actually the bottom of the plug) in the next post, the two wires I want to cut are the ones with the two yellow arrows (the light blue and orange). Do I have everything correct?

Thanks,

Bill

Question

Me again.

Hopefully this is my last post before I try everything out. I have cut the blue wire and have run both halfs to my switch along with the power line. My final question is how do I make the connections? Which wire goes where?

Thanks,

Bill

In respect of wiring, just like post #74 in this thread.

As for the physical connection you mean? You can either bare and solder the wire to the switch or use crimp terminals from any auto shop (Take the switch in so you get the right size crimp terminals)

To connect to the Orange wire in the harness, bare back a bit of the insulation a little way down. Say, 5mm. You should see the copper. Don't cut it. Now, take a very thin nail or pointy object and push through the copper making an eye. Take your bared orange wire end, wrap it through the eye and around the copper a couple of times. Squeeze the eye back closed and wrap tightly in insulation tape. You could have soldered it first, but there shouldn't be a need with a good connection.

Not sure I explained that very well but I think you get the idea.

Exclamation Help!!!!!!

Greetings all,

Well I finally decided to take the leap of faith and I cut the blue wire (the one next to the pink one) behind my nav screen of my RX400h. Wow that did not work out. What happened is that nav system went to a check system screen. Turned the vehicle off and when it came back on the nav system did not work at all. I finally realized that the switch was in the wrong direction. I was just testing the connection to see if all was fine. No power line was running to the switch either. I flipped the switch in the right direction and still no dice. I finally took the leads of the switch and connected them together and everything went back to normal.

Any ideas what went wrong / any thoughts? One question I had is if that is the camera wire, why would it knock out the nav system if it was not connected?

Another question: Is the J50 the biggest connector among the three in the back of the screen?

I am in some serious need of help and would greatly appreciate any.

Thanks all,

Bill

Bill, your system does actually look like the one in post #79 from the back doesn't it?

Have you got the rest of the circuit diagram there at all?

After researching, it appears that the reverse signal goes into the navigation ecu on my RX. Now the question is which wire from the nav ecu causes the nav screen to switch to the backup camera?

Does anyone agree or disagree with my first statement?

Thanks,

Bill
