Maybe you can try this product. Very cheap and easy to use.
You can paint it directly from outside and remove it if you dislike.

That is what i used on my old MB its called JDM tint Spray. It works great and it comes with clear coat so its shinny when it comes out, it looks OEM

I bought a tinting spray a few years back when I was on vacation in California. It also came out kinda dull looking like that. It stayed on for a few years before it started to fade. It would come off if you rubbed alcohol on it.

no ones mentioned that there is a smoked vinyl film that can be applied to the tail lights, ...edit that, maybe it was that the lights are too curved/complex to wrap them in vinyl. Has Aerotec tried it yet?
I may try it on my car, just not sure if i'd keep it on.

I called Sticker City (Sticker City in Sherman Oaks, CA. They'll paint the tail lights permanently for $190. I'm hoping one of the CL vendors can provide this or a similar service for a lower price.

Hell i can do it for you for $100 you remove the tail light though and drop off my house.
