I hardwired mine, and soldered to the mirror side of the harness then wrapped tight with black tape. I used the Country Joy Craft mount and it is a nice clean, solid install. I like power from the mirror method, no fuses needed and it doesn't turn on unless the ignition is turned to the "on" mode. It doesn't come on with the accessories. Thanks for everyone's input in this thread it helped me a lot back when I did this.

Just did this install with Blendmount. Thanks tuxlex for the wires to tap from the mirror harness.
Only downside is I couldn't figure out how to reinstall the black trim that covers the wiring from the mirror to the ceiling.

Have you tested it with a multimeter? Also make sure your solder connections are good. And if you didn't solder, that's probably your problem. I just installed my 9500 using blue(-) and orange(+) and it worked great. Also you mention reversing polarity--I read on this thread that doing so on a Valentine is ok, but not sure on the Passport. Maybe you fried your RD?

1st Mod!
Hey CL! I am the proud new owner of a 2007 IS 250 AWD and my first mod was installing the Direct Wire SmartCord (Blue) for my 9500ix. I know everybody has their preference, but I mount my detector at the bottom center of my windshield, right above where the ML center channel speaker would be. I thought and thought about where to install the remote thingy, but ended up running it up to the bottom of the mirror where others seem to like installing the detector itself. I tapped the cig lighter for power, btw... If anyone has other good locations on where to install the remote thingy in a setup like this - feel free to give me ideas to consider! I have yet to "permanantly" mount the remote thingy to the mirror, as I'm likely going to have to drill through the two in order to attach it well. For now it's just held up by some leftover adhesive that kept it in place in my last install, but in the heat the adhesive melts and the remote thingy hangs down, which annoys me to no end It's perfect when it stays there, though - can't miss that blinking light in my face, even if I don't hear the detector over my music.

instead of the red to blue and green to orange, can someone actually tell me which is the switch 12v and which is ground? is blue(ground) and orange(12v)? i read through the whole thread and seems everyone is just going off colors. im using a different wire tap kit and the wires are just the normal black/red. info would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

The other end of this plug has different color wires. White with black, orange, red, black and pink. Does anyone know the correct colors on this end? I have to step my dash camera down to 5v and want the fuse to be in the headliner.
