Hey Comb, does the radar detector pick up rear signals with it mounted there? I am going to get it if you think it works great there. I just hate the winshield mounting.

Yea it does. If you go read the faq's on escorts site, they actually tell you that mid way down (not too high and not too low) in the window is the best mounting spot. This is for laser.
If you are good with the windshield mount then just do that. If you like mine lo0oks then do that too. You will need to still use double sided tape to keep it from vibrating around.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but i have a question. When you directly wire the V1 to the mirror, is it not necessary to add a fuse in because the mirror is already fuse protected? Also where and how do you ground the radar detector then or is this also not necessary since the mirror is ground?

If you are using the mirror's power, you can use the mirror's ground connection as well. If not, you can ground the V1 hardwire kit directly to any overhead bolt behind the overhead sunglasses/lighting module.

Rys, If wiring directly to the mirror with just like 3-4 inches of phone cord, how do you ground the V1 (not using the V1 hardwire kit obviously) or is grounding not necessary at that point.

FYI...
I used TexLux's method for the most part. Instead of stripping & soldering the wires, I used some crimp male pins and pushed those into the molex connector. This was very simple to install and does not alter any factory wires/harnesses.
Also, I made a mirror mount for the V1. (This is more or less my prototype, so I hope to have something a little better in the near future.)
Let me know what you think about the position? I like it as you don't have to take your eyes away too much from a common spot (rear view mirror).

Guys - the key to putting in a fuse is how much wire do you want to burn? I agree there is a fuse in the fuse box to protect the circuit, but remember, the wire from the fuse to the device is what you are protecting with a low value fuse close to the device. Just something to keep in mind when hard wiring anything...

So what would you suggest Lance??? I want to hardwire my 9500i, I also noticed that theres a fuse located on the wire isnt that there to protect the radar?? I was also going to see if there is an extra fuse not being used and use that one what do you think??

First off, I know I couldve mounted the radar a lot higher but to me that wasnt the proper place. And even the manual said to place it where I did. It didnt look like this way has been covered so I took the liberty of doing it myself for future references for other people. I hope this helps. I like the way it turned out so
This is what I bought, its called Add-A-CIRCUIT
This is the hardwire kit from Escort
This is what I used, electrical tape, solder and shrink tube.
First slip on a piece of shrink tube and connect the 2 positives together
Then solder and wrap in electrical tape
Then heat up the shrink tube with a lighter or a heat gun
This is what I bought, its called Add-A-CIRCUIT

Now it should look like this
I connected the fuse end to the 10amp, as pointed. The ADD-A-CIRCUIT is only designed to hold 10amps!
These are the important steps you have to follow, notice slot B (top) is for the accessory and slot A (bottom) is the fuse you removed from the fuse panel, be sure to install the right fuse in the right location

I then ran the wire through the headliner down the OUTSIDE of the a-pillar then popped out the side panel and ran the rest of the wire down there, and voila!
BTW if you installed the ADD-A-CIRCUIT wrong just turn off the car and turn it around make sure you didnt put back all the panels before making sure it works! Enjoy!!!

i just hard wired mine to the power in the auto dimming mirror, no fuses needed, wires run only about 12 inches, all i had to take out was the dome light, took me about 5 minutes to find the switched power to the mirror and T tap into that wire and telf tap a 1/4" screw into the metal that the dome light screws into for a ground.. the radar detector uses so little power the mirror circut won't even know its there.
