Default IS 250 or G35 Coupe????

I have a '06 250 6MT, but my local Infiniti dealer emailed me back with a pretty good deal on a new 05 G35 coupe 6MT, fully loaded. This was the car that I originally was looking at, but could not justify the $41K price tag. Now that they are offering at a considerable discount, I am thinking of trading in...

I know my car has probably depreciated beyond belief in the past 3 months, but what are your thoughts on this trade? I would like to know:

1) what you think about the trade
2) how much you think I would get for my car (base 6MT 250 with 18" wheels)
3) which would you have if price were around the same for both cars

Thank you for all your help, I am considering making this decision this weekend.

how much will they give u for the trade in?

yea, ur car lost a crud load of value the min u signed, it became titled, and u drove it off the lot. sux, but its the way of the world. I guess u'd have to way in how much they give u for trade in, and the find the difference on wut u paid (in total) for the IS. Then add that difference to the "total" price for the g35....does that come near or close to the 41k price tag u didnt wanna pay before?

u can also consider trying to privately sell the IS.

If they were the same price, I'd get the fully loaded G35. More power and bells and whistles. But since that's not the case, I'd rather have the IS. I would probably keep it if it is still functionally sound (enough room for you, reliable, meets your needs, etc. -- power and speed is ultimately "not functional").

You're at a loss. You probably bought your IS at MSRP. Consider selling your car at around invoice price to private parties as most people are now getting good deals on the IS. Don't trade it in with the dealer unless they offer you invoice as well.

Good luck with the decision.

If it were the same price, and I dont need back seat room, then I would pick up the G35 in a hearbeat.

One (maybe the only) reason the dealer is offering you such a good deal on the G35 is that the redesigned '07 G35 is going to hit the lots soon. So the older generation cars are going to show their age and depreciate more rapidly. If that's not important to you and the G35 is really what you want to be driving, then go for it. Some other lucky person would be getting a sweet deal on a lightly used IS. I would personally pick an IS250 over a G35, but the I picked the IS350 over both of them.

Something else to consider (which was on of the things I looked at when considering G35 vs. IS). Assuming you need a car now, you should know that the G35 is up for redesign, I believe the 2007 models are going to be different.

The current G35 was released at a 2003 model in 2002, so if you get the coupe, it's going to look like the "old" G35 by the end of the year (i'm not sure what the release schedule is for Sedan vs. Coupe).

The IS is going to look current for at least a few years. I wouldn't be surprised if the G35 depreciated faster once the newer body style is released (rumors are a larger engine will be included too). On the other hand the current coupe has held its value extremely well.

Trading a car in so soon after you buy it would probably wipe away any savings you are getting on the G35. Since you are so quick to change your mind, it will also cost you a lot when you see the '06, all-new G35 unvelied next month and you will want that one in September. Also, keep in mind, an outgoing body style will depreciate much value within a year. That's why the dealers are giving these "good deals" at the close out of the model year. No dealer sells a car for less than what it is worth. You will get the car for what it is worth. The "deal" is factoring in the depreciation the current G35s will take in April when everyone will start holding out for the new model.

Also, I could not stand the current G interior as I could not stand the prior FX interior. That is a matter of taste though.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the redesign. I would say stick with the IS25 for 2 years.
