The pics from Paco of the IS, Camry, and tC side by side proves one thing and one thing only. You guys that think they look alike need to go get your eyes checked.

Well duh, of course those cars all look the same. After all, they all have the wheels, headlights, tail lights, doors, and windows in almost exactly the same places. Can't Toyota show some creativity?

For one thing, the 07 Camry with the V6 engine has dual exhaust. And at least Toyota didn't cheapen out on the new Camry by eliminating the windshield eyebrow like they did on the new IS. Just gives the IS a cheap econo car look when viewed from the front.

The Gen 1 IS300 never had the blue windshield shading at the top from the beginning.

I work in Georgetown at Toyota Logistics, basicly like a port facility. We install acessories and ship the vehicles where they need to go. Anyway i drive approx 1000 Camrys a week and believe me that the IS is much better, im not saying the Camry is a bad vehicle just that the quality of materials seem to be better in the Lexus. As it should be.

The Camry is a big IS???? What are those of you who insist on that smoking???!!!!

That's ridiculous. I've been next to New Camrys and New IS's on the road for days now, and they look nothing alike.

For one, the IS looks MUCH better. Although the Camry is not bad, the IS is a whole different animal.

I respectfully suggest that you are more sensitive to the existence or lack of "windshield eyebrows" than the vast majority of people. It's not a feature I ever notice on other cars, and I certainly don't think the lack thereof would cause anyone to mistake my IS for an "econo car" from any angle. To the extent this feature has any usefulness at all, sunglasses and sun visors do the trick much better.

wow my first flame fest. How fun.

As I stated twice already. I love my IS350.

However I don't see why you people cant see that the two cars look to be built on the same platform. The Camry previously shared platforms with the ES, but now it appears to share it with the IS.
A beetle shares the same platform as a Jetta, do they look exactly alike, no.

My dealer told me no other car would share the IS platform. I think he lied, that's all.

DaveGS4 already told you where the IS came from. Its a SHORTNED GS PLATFORM. THis is confirmed in Lexus press releases. The Camry and IS share NOTHING from a platform perspective. NOTHING.

Now I am telling you, the IS DOES NOT SHARE THE CAMRY PLATFORM.

This is not even UP FOR DEBATE. This is a FACT.

A FACT.

If you think they look similar, so be it. But they are not based on the same mechanicals. Even the IS 350 engine is more advanced with dual VVTi and direct injection compared to the identical 3.5 in the Camry.

the IS, a rear-wheel drive, is based on the GS's platform; while Camry, front-wheel driven, shares its platform with Avalon and ES. Just because there are similar design cues doesn't mean they share the same platform. On the other hand, a Chryler Crossfire shares major components, including the platform, with the previous gen MB SLK, but you wouldn't know by looking from the outside. The tC does bear more resemblance to IS, in profile, at least.

Looks wise, Camry and IS are quite different.

However, in IS350 and Camry Dual VVT-i 3.5 liter, the engine (3.5 liter V6, tuned a little differently and different header) and transmission (different gear ratios) are the essentially the same.
