Will the new ES take away from IS sales?

That being said, it's not a 350, and doesn't have that top quality look and feel the 350 does.
ps, FWIW the keywords in the above is "I think." I read that somewhere, but don't remember where.

Look at the failure of the I35 for Infiniti. Imagine that happened to Lexus?

I think the IS and ES are targeted toward 2 totally different demographics. You'll get the younger crowd that's looking for a sports sedan in an IS. The ES customers will be comparing it to the Toyota Avalon, and cars like the Buick Lucerne and such.

Any of you IS owners hating the ES, RESPECT your older brother. The ES either is most reliable or best selling in class. It has done WONDERS for Lexus. We have ES owners that have switched to the IS.
The ES maybe based on the Camry but its more than just a fancy Camry. The ES sold 44,000 cars back in 1992. The IS is doing that with 2 models in 2006.

I don't hate the ES, and certainly wouldn't put it in the same category as the Taurus, but in my mind it's a Camry for people who want the prestige of the Lexus brand, and the kid gloves treatment of a Lexus dealership.

It does seem like a few people are dissing the ES. Maybe they're not but they're entitled to their opinions. I happen to think the ES is a very nice car. We like our 99 and mostly like all the new ES models we've driven as loaners. The interiors are very nice and the car has a classy look....certainly classier than the Camry. Acceleration hesitation is my biggest issue with the new es. Now this next gen comes along with a sportier but classier look. Also pushing 272 horses. I'm more inclined to believe it may steal sales from the LS. The looks are more similar now and with better power, why pay the 60K premium? Obviously it won't replace the LS but might just snag a couple sales. As for the IS, probably snag a couple of those too but not many. A different demographic buys the 2 different cars. I also think the new ES will steal sales from other brands, too. That 272 hp is a significant feature, bring it closer to the competition....surpasses a few.
