Its tough when they have an excellent platform (Camry) to build from. Besides, not like the ES doesn't sell. Lexus' U.S. mission statement is "to attract and retain customers with the highest value products and services and the most satisfying ownership experience in America." That means building cars that "Americans" want, which have been "Camry" type cars. High quality, high luxury, excellent customer service.

Plus the ES has a tape deck, IS doesn't.

No sane manufacturer is going to drop a $30-40K+ model that sells 70K+ per year, nomatter what platform it's based on, fwd or not.

I don't think most people looks at a IS and a ES at the same time. If someone were looking at a ES i'm sure they are also checking out the Mercedes-Benz C-Class which is one of the few luxury oriented entry level luxury vehicles left since most are targeted towards sporty\luxury like the IS so I highly doubt it would steal sales.

I don't think sale of apples will affect sale of oranges in anyway.

Correct! You got it, they're both fruits but some prefer oranges than apples. I like'em both. I have an ES and I might get an IS.

Did anyone see the damn graph posted?

Any of you IS owners hating the ES, RESPECT your older brother. The ES either is most reliable or best selling in class. It has done WONDERS for Lexus. We have ES owners that have switched to the IS.

The ES maybe based on the Camry but its more than just a fancy Camry. The ES sold 44,000 cars back in 1992. The IS is doing that with 2 models in 2006.

totally agree.... the IS is a nice car, but it's not the king of the world. there are (or going to) a lot of stuff that the 2is can't even get close to the new es. quietness, comfort, gadgets, etc... the 2is very nice as a little performance sedan, but know what you got and respect others

Gadgets? They seem to have the same from what I've read, unless you count the sunroof as a gadget.

Its beyond gadgets. Imagine the ES fails back in the 90s, not only does it totally hurt Lexus credibility, it does not bring in revenue to make cars LIKe the IS.

Look at the failure of the I35 for Infiniti. Imagine that happened to Lexus?

Default Don't forget the IS 250!!! A lot less $$ than the ES 350...

Don't forget, you also have to consider the IS250 with the ES350. The IS250 will be significantly less than the ES, and some people may prefer the IS for the lower cost. There may be some drivers out there that does not need the extra space, power, and cost of the ES, hence the IS250 should suffice.

If you bothered to process my reply, he (rominl) said gadgets, not me! I'm simply asking him what gadgets he (rominl) is referring to. He (rominl) says "the IS can't even get close to the ES in terms of... gadgets".

I would suggest, that you don't quote someone's message, unless your response is actually pertinent to it, rather than the thread discussion.
