Don't roll down ur windows, never bring left over food from restaurants inside ur car, and don't let girls ride in your car....their fruity perfumes are so dam strong.....the last one is hard to do tho

Cool

Don't you love it! Took my car in for the personalized settings yesterday and the guy who takes your keys and puts in the paper mats, etc. commented on my new car smell. I said can't we bottle that smell. Anyway I try to prolong mine as long as possible by not rolling down the windows or using the sunroof for the first year or so

I remember hearing that new car smell is actual the residual chemical odor of leather and other plastics in the car - it's not healthy for you.

might try leather conditioner.

I actually dont find the new smell of leather that attractive at all. Most of the times it smells like dried shrimp to me.

My new car smell seemed to have worn off pretty quick. Maybe I used got used to it. A friend of mine drove my car the other day and her perfume got all over the seatbelt. Everytime I get in my car, I could smell it. It's a good thing I like her perfume!!

Great question.

I wish I had a great answer but I don't know how to make it last longer, so I've just decided to enjoy it while it lasts

I think they have those hanging air fresheners that are in the "New Car" scent. A friend had one but can't remember now if they worked. I also keep the air conditioner on recirculate instead of fresh air. If I'm gonna die from the smell of my new car, I'll die happy.

Forget the "New Car" air fresheners they sell. I had a friend try a bunch of those, and they all smelled bad. Not even close to "a real new car smell".
I have heard that the smell is bad for you also. But the heck with that. Bring it on!

It's downright toxic, actually.

I'd rather live longer and enjoy the car for more years, than die early.

Mine only lasted for about a week, I think. And ya, the chemicals that you are smelling cause cancer!

Enjoy while you can because it looks like car manufacturers are taking steps to reduce these residual chemicals, and hence the smell too:
