License Plate Frame
Hi guys,
Here in NJ, the state requires both a front and rear license plate. I've already told the dealer I don't want them to put the front plate on.
How have you guys handled this? Many dealerships drill the frame directly into the front bumper, which would upset me greatly. I'm looking for a less intrusive way to get the frame on the car.

You don't have a choice. Either you drill the holes to mount the plate, or you don't run a front plate and risk the ticket.

Here in Calif you are also supposed to have a front plate. But I have friends that have omitted the front plate on their cars and have never been ticketed (even when getting a parking ticket, the missing plate wasn't noted). So I am going to try going "naked" in front. I don't want the holes drilled if I can avoid it.

In VA, they will nail you in a heartbeat for not having a front plate. They have frequent road checks just for this kind of stuff. I'm sure that's not how our law enforcement is paying for their "company" vacations .

I am lucky that NC does not require a front plate.
When I lived in Dallas they did, and I have a friend that did not run it on front on his vette.
The law stated that a missing front plate was not cause to pull over a car, but they could ticket you for it if they stopped you for something else. Check your local.
My vote is zip ties to the front grille.

I got pulled over frequently for no front plate on the Supra here in IA... cop showed me the law in the books where it states where the plate must be located, distance from the ground, etc... my wife got pulled for it frequently too.... $35 fine.
A friend of mine got creative on his XB and came up with a mounting bracket that I'm going to be using on my IS as well... I'll try to snap some pics on lunch and put them up... basically it's a tubing that sticks out from the car about 4 inches and mounts to the lower bolts of a plate and gives it an appearance like it's floating... it just fits through the holes in the mesh of the lower grill... quite impressive looking and no drilling the bumper.
I'll try to snag some pics ASAP.
