The IS is my fifth brand new car, and the first without any rattles right off of the dealer's lot. I couldn't be happier with mine.

ARGH! Got in my car this morning to go to work.. temp around 33 degrees and the WHOLE car started to rattle. Not only was the sound coming from the passenger vent but there was a heavy rattle coming from the instrument panel. Sounded a lot like plastic on plastic. I was almost ready to cry... lol. I thought the reason you got a Lexus was to avoid these problems...

Thanks for the heads up on the passenger vent problem... anyone successfully solve this?

Very strange, it was in the teens here last week and I still didn't hear a single rattle.

About 45F here and when the sunroof cover is open there is a slight rattle. If the cover is closed you cannot hear it.

There also seems to be a small ratlle from the drivers side seat belt area. I don't know what it is or where it is coming from but it kills me when I am on the bluetooth without the radio on. It is in my left ear driving me crazy!

Sometimes I hear rattles coming from the dash but when I ask my passengers they say that they don't hear anything. I guess it's just me... The only other major rattle that I've had was when I put my sunglasses in the sunglass holder in the roof, so I just took them out and put them elsewhere.

I get the same thing - seems like it's on the passenger side, maybe at the windshield base/dashboard area.

This was posted on the GS forum. Wonder if it's related and the same problem:

I had the same thing happen to me. I took the car in and they put some felt around the instrument cluster. Like you said it seems to come and go. When I took it in, the sound diminished. They did say above the instrument cluster there was a little play in it. The rattle picked up again just when I got close to my house. I have to take the car back in later this week. It could be something with the cold. Sounds like plastic, like the instrument panel cover is hitting up against someting.

Any news on this meta1?

I am debating whether I should wait until my 5000 km service or not to have the rattling investigated.

The rattling came back this weekend and this time it didn't subside with a warm cabin temperature and relativly mild ambient temperature (in the sun too). Later the same day, the rattling was still audible. The next day, no rattling.

The rattling seems to originate behind the middle vents somewhere in the front dash. With my luck, I will take my car into Lexus and the rattling won't be so apparent.

I had the slight rattle from the seat belt area (but passenger side) since the beginning. After about 1000 mi or so I started getting some more rattles, ie dash where glass and vinly meet, and few noises from the door. I am very disappointed since the main reason I switched out of a G35 to the new IS was because of rattles.
