Hi all, I was stuck in traffic today and noticed that up shifts from 1-2 and downshifts from 2-1 on my IS350 is a bit jerky when I'm in bumper-to-bumper traffic or during very VERY slow acceleration. I tried this in normal mode and in ECT SNOW which similar results. This is not a problem during regular acceleration (e.g., from a stop light) or even under more aggressive acceleration. In those instances, the up shifting and downshifting is buttery smooth. I only have 230 miles on the car, so I'm not sure if it improves after some break-in time.

Anyone else feel this? Its not a significant jerk, but enough to cause some concern. If it still persists after 1k, I'm bringing it to the dealer. Thanks.

i'm finding this to be the case also.

and therefore i'm not doing this very often.

i'd rather not use the sport shift unless i'm already moving and downshifting mostly from the 3-4-5 range and sometimes 2.

my prior vehicle, acura cl-s, you had zero control of the 1-2 shift. it was automatic and not manual but you could shift from 2-3 and later. now i know why.

to me, driving around in 1st gear in the 350 is almost worthless.

larger gear ratios of low gears and high low end torque will do that. I can replicate the same jerky surge of the car in manuals, nothings wrong with your car. You can probably move from a stop in 2nd gear, IS350 has a lot of low end torque, when the car is still in motion should never move from 2 to 1 because the car will surge, stay in 2, it even happens in my 2000 prelude and it has way less power.

My 350 does the same thing. A bit disconcerting, but it appears to be normal for this car.

why are you manually shifting to 1st. Let it shift on its own, then restrict the range to 1st. I guess there is a reason they put both the 1 • •*•*•*• in the multifunction display and the gear display between the tach ad speedo.

for me i've noticed after 3k miles.. car started shifting smoother. but i normally leave it in drive.

I notice this on my 250 also.

The jerkiness is exactly what you'd get in a manual car driven by someone who has less that stellar clutch control. That being said, even in a manual, you rarely downshift to first unless you're on an autocross course or you've come to a complete or near complete stop. Leave it in second.

Just to clarify to everyone, this occurs when the car is in Drive ("D"); I'm not forcing the car to shift from 1-2 or 2-1 in sport-shift ("S") mode. Of course if I did, I would expect it to be a bit jerky due to the high-torque engine, and I was also starting to feel that maybe it was caused by larger spaced gear ratios.
