The dealer won't even give you KBB trade-in value. They use a different "book" for assessing vehicle values. Condition actually plays little into trade-in value (aside from normal wear and tear). Condition only makes a difference to what the dealer will resell it for. You're much better to sell privately.

I traded in a 2004 G35 Cpe with prem. pkg, aero pkg, nav, perf. tire and wheel pkg and 24,000 miles in immaculate condition back in Oct 05 on a BMW 330 Ci and got $25900 for it after over an hour of negotiation. You will be lucky to recieve trade-in value for your car...most dealers offer no more than what they can buy a similar car for at an auction.

The car will prolly be around 2500 back of wholesale. Dealers have to include reconditioning the car and a profit. You should try and sell your car, but the sooner you wait til the new ones come out your car will take a lil dive cuz everyone will want the new and improved ones, plus the type of customers buying Infinity's are usually more able and want to buy a new one. But it's your choice, they will floor you when they tell you how much they will give you. But hey, who wants to deal with people coming to thier house and driving thier car?? Trade it in!

And don't expect any money for mods, if anything, they will try to detract value

Your G35 is almost exaclty like mine before I traded it in 1 month ago! I had a 2004 G35 Coupe auto, nav, prem dia graph / graph with 16800 mi. They gave me a great deal for trade-in (28600) but I paid msrp for the car. But like many people in this forum might remember, I received a car that was on the lot with 140 mi . So I think a good deal should be 26500 to 27500 for a trade-in for a brand spankin new car.

I'm sure you can carry out your outstanding payments on the G35 onto the IS350.

If you have the time -- Private sale; accept nothing less! After that negotiate the price on the IS.

If you decide to trade in keep both processes separate. If dealer wants full MSRP for his vehicle, its only fair to accept good or better for your trade.

The other book that our peers are referring to is called the: "Black Book". Go to any other dealer and ask for the most recent copy of the page pertaining to your vehicle. Use that in negotiating a fair price for your vehicle. Also, Lexus will call other dealers including Infiniti to out how much they will pay for your car, you should do the same to bounce your numbers off of theirs.

Remember: Take your time; there is no need to rush because everything is in your favor. GL, you won't need it.

oh btw, i selected "suggested price" not private or dealer...
why would you look in suggested retail price? suggested retail price is what the suggested listing price for dealers if they are selling a used car. Well since people are getting 3-4k off brand new g35's you're already down to 29-30k. the dealer will try to make 1-2k profit so the best you will get even if everthing goes your way is 28-29k. but i seriously doubt they will give u this much, like i said they gave me 28.6k for a trade-in for a car in the lot.

It may not apply to you, but up here, we pay sales tax on just the difference in value between the new car & the trade-in ( & it's 15% for the G35c ), so it really makes little sense to go through the hassle of selling the used car privately yourself .

last october, i traded in a 03 g35 coupe auto w/ 44k miles. got $23k trade-in (initially they were set at $22k, but i got them to match the carmax offer of 23k). it was a worthy upgrade to an is350.
