So this is what happens when the Key fob battery is dead...
I took the battery out to see what happens....
....the door unlock sensors do not detect your hand anymore...you must flip the key cover off....but the car starts no problem, although you must hold the fob right up to the button....
I have read a couple posts implying that it uses the same technology as security cards and the 1st gen IS key etc...I just wanted to verify and let anyone that was wondering know...

any estimate on how long battery life is?
And i suppose the fob continuously transmits a signal rigth? Does that mean i should probably remove the battery out of my spare so that It doesn't drain? Maybe there should be some sort of switch for when it's not in use or something like that.
