No thanks. I feel no need to troll on another vehicle's forum to try and prove I made a better purchase. You bimmer guys keep reading the Motor Trends and other rags every day while trolling the IS forums, and I will just go out and enjoy driving my beautiful, fast, reliable, better residual value car every day. LOL.

PS: While I'm blowing by you on the highway, don't forget to hold up your favorite collection of magazines that say you have the better car.

I wasn't trolling. In all fairness, i was just replying to that original video.
The video was BS and it was confirmed by some previous poster
so i made my point. Enjoy your wonderful cars. I dont have a problem
with your IS350. I just had a problem with the video. You guys
value certain things in a car and I value other aspects.
WE should all be happy that there are two great cars that fit both of our needs.

And when that sharp curve comes up ahead and you end up in a ditch,
i'll be sure to wave as i casually drive by

It's a damn shame we have speed limits.
I'll let you get pulled over.

im just joking guys, dont get so defensive, relax.

I just wonder though, when that 335i comes out and
you guys lose that slight performance edge..then
what will be your defense?

Regardless of the video, be realistic and be objective. Suck it up. Don't be butt hurt that Lexus is publicizing the strengths of the IS350 by putting it next to the competitor. There is nothing wrong in that. That is what forces other companies to raise the bar on themselves. There is almost 70 HP and 70 ft lbs of difference between the two cars (yes, Lexus puts out 320 HP according to the old SAE standards, which yield the 255 HP for the 330i), weigh 100 lbs within each other, have one second difference between them in a 0-60 and quartermile (Car and Driver). 13.7 vs 14.9 and 5.1 vs 6.2 secs. To gauge that difference, 1 second difference in quartermile translates to 8-9 car lengths.

Regardless of your calling BS on the video, the 330i auto or manual will eat the dust of the IS350 all day long. That is just what reality is. Period.

haha just shows you, you don't see BMW holding event's
asking people to come down and drive the IS350 or whatever.
Because they know they don't need to do that. Lexus does that
because the 330i is the benchmark. Even corporate lexus knows
that and that is why that event occurred.

Did anyone doubt that you look up the word sport sedan in the dictionary, you will see a picture of BMW 3 series in there? They are the pioneers and will hold their own always. I personally am a crazy fan of the E46 M3 especially the Euro M3 CSL.

Case in point, this topic is about the 330i performance vs 350 performance and not the benchmark, which up to this point has always been the 3 series.

In that car and driver test the 330i goes to 60mph in 5.6 vs 5.1 for the lexus. Where are you getting 6.2? and these 1 second differences?

Uhh, BMW wasn't the only car at the event. Lexus has really gone the EXTRA MILE by having the competiton present, people can make up their own minds. It shows CONFIDNCE In their product but also FAIRNESS. They should be given Kudos and Credit for holding such an event.

No one is arguing the 3 is the benchmark.

Read the review again and flip to the test stats page. You will see the 6.2 seconds there. Closest to the IS was the G35 sedan with a 5.9 seconds and not the 330i. They could not get any other car to run faster than that.

Yup. I suggest you pick a hard copy of this review to see a page long comparo of performance tests and how they stack up against each other. For now read the quote below:

"Considering that it purrs easily to its 6800-rpm redline, Acura's 3.2-liter SOHC V-6 makes pleasing midrange torque and impresses with its flexibility if not its hammer acceleration (yet only the Lexus beats the Acura's 5.9-second run to 60 mph)."

It's so interesting how car and driver got 6.1 sec to 60 and 14.7 @ 94 using 325i (40 less hp)
in this test:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=2

No wonder nobody compares 325i with Is250.

Also, very interesting here how they managed 5.6 to 60 and 14.3 @98 with 330i in this test:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=3

either way, IS350 is much quicker. you guys win. i drive a slow car.

Lexus and BMW are cars, not religions. Next time I'm shopping for a car, if I feel that BMW is the best fit for me, I'll buy one.

But to play your silly game, hopefully Lexus will counter with the IS460 to take back the acceleration crown (spy shots have already been published), even if they don't, we'll still have Toyota reliability. Coming from a B5 Audi S4, I know all too well what a money pit German cars can become once out of warranty.

The STI and EVO are not really in the same class as the IS350/330i. They are both built on economy car platforms, and have so much boy-racer bling (e.g. ridiculously large spoilers), that most middle-age professionals aren't going to want to be seen in one.

Also, I've never driven one, but I'd also be concerned that the power curve would be similar to my old first generation Eagle Talon Tsi/AWD (which I had modified to make to pretty impressive power) -- the old turbo lag rubber band effect. Hit the go pedal, get modest accelation until the turbo spools, and then WHOOSH - a push in your back and you're gone.

And what about the G35? anyone driven one. it's the closest i think
any car company has come to matching BMW. it should be 330i vs G35 too.
I drove both the G35 coupe and sedan, and was impressed by the drive and handling. Absolutely hated the interior, though. Reminded me of an early 90's vintage sentra, except with garish orange gauges.

Well said. I couldn't agree more. Friend just purchased a 2006 330i basically fully loaded because it was a better fit for him. Some people don't play the "my car is better than your car" game. We get whichever car which fits us best. (Within monetary reason, of course).

Cheers,
Kermee
