last weekend, I went to a dealer in fremont automall(northern california),
the japanese salesman said the AWD version is not available right now, because of
some problems.
anyone heard of that?

Just the mats. It can get caught on the gas pedal, so the mats need to be changed. AWD only.

It was a recall where the accelerator pedal might get caught up on the mat and lead to potential problems. I believe hte recall fix is pretty quick and involves some type of modification to the mat that one dealer came out to a persons home to fix. They might not be selling the AWD IS250 until a dealership is assured that all of the cars affected on its lot have been fixed in compliance with the recall. If they sell a car out that has a recall on it, I think they could be negligence for any problems that might occur.

They have an AWD at Stevens Creek Lexus. I just saw it on Sunday.

As mentioned above, it was a quick recall that affected a cerain batch of IS250 AWD. There are IS250 AWD vehicles that are readily available and are being sold here in Southern California. It's possible Magnussen (Fremont) doesn't have any inventory which is why the salesperson told you this. Good luck w/your search...they are out there!

My dad already has about 1k miles on his AWD... so I'd have to say that yes, they are available.

The recall was published on 12/16/05, IIRC, and dealers started withholding 250AWDs shortly thereafter. Service and parts were required, as I understand it, and there was a delay while parts came over from Japan. But they're here, and the affected cars should have been fixed by now. Perhaps your dealer drew the short end of the stick and didn't get enough parts, or lost or destroyed the parts they did receive. Try another dealer.

I can attest that, after about a week's delay, I received my car on 12/30/05, with the accelerator fix in place.
