Still speculation obviously, but Ive been thinking about this(and so have many others). Makes sense to me, but Im not sure if it will happen so soon. Maybe spring 07. If it does happen next year, then so be it. It should have been 300/350 from the start. I also still believe there is a chance for a M3/S4 type IS*** coming.

I fail to see this as credible OR confirmed information when there's no hard copy or official source to cite it. He said she said is the key here.

maybe the decision hasn't been finalized and Lexus is waiting to see what Infiniti does with the next G35. If the next G35 gets a 300hp 3.5L V6, improved interior material like M35/45, AND manages to keep the price competitive, Lexus will be forced to upgrade the junior IS's performance, as the IS has done to the 3 series.

It's going ot be interesting, but Nissan has a history of making good power (though inflating numbers) at a cost of fuel economy.

If Infiniti is going to boost output on the new G35 to 300+ HP then wouldn't that mean that Lexus would have to boost output on the 350? Boosting the 250 to a 300 would have no discernible difference to the G35 since its competition is the 350 and not 250

The 2007 G35 supposedly gets a 330 hp 3.7L V6. The GTR gets a 450 hp twin turbo version. Both are just rumors.
Anyways, the G35 competes against the IS350.
I would welcome an IS300. There is such a big difference in power between the 250 and 350 right now. The 250 is the slowest car in its class and the 350 is the fastest car in its class.
A 300 would be just right for many. Good power without the extra cost of the 350. A manual version would be pretty fun too.
But ... I'm not holding my breath. It seems odd that Toyota would use the 2.5L for just one year. But then again, they're supposedly using the 3.0L in the GS for just a year, so who knows.

I can see it happening in a freshning in the usual 3 years. Not in one year. Lexus has never replaced an engine in only one year.
It just goes to show , Lexus sells b/c they sell complete cars and not everyone is concened with peak HP. These are LUXURY cars first, not some damn Drag Racers...
Sigh, the internet, got to love it, got to hate it.

Nah not necessarily. With 306 hp and proven times of running sub 14sec in the quarter with an automatic, I dont think it needs to have more power just because of the G35 possibly having 300+ also. Its perfect the way it is. People are going to look at this model for more than just power ratings. Plus I dont think the new G35 would get that big of a jump in power unless the V8 models are being revamped as well(but you never know, look at the GS430/350 currently sold in Japan). We all know that Infiniti can bring the power, but more importantly they have to bring the features and quality. Something I dont think they have proven with the current G35.

This would be good news, because now if you want to row your own gears, you have only slightly more than 200hp. I think an IS300 with 245hp and a 6-speed manual would be a very well-balanced, fun-to-drive car.... and a great value starting at 30,000. If i was to move my car purchase up to tomorrow, I may go with the 250 for money reasons, but may very well regret not being able to get the 350 because of the 100 extra hp. However, if the base model had 245hp... i'd be very happy paying low 30's for that and wouldn't be so sad about not paying 40,000 for the 350 model.

according to some sources (don't know if they are credible, so they'll just stay as RUMORS for now), the next Z will be the 400Z, which uses a 4.0 V6 to replace the VQ35. If that is true, then G35 would be a G40 with the same engine.
Also, I think it's not surprising for the IS250 to turn into IS300 after just 1 year. There is a STRONG possibility (almost confirmed, I believe) that the GS300 will be getting the 3.5 liter 2GR-FSE for 2007 MY, with the 430 upgrading to 460 in 2008. To keep up with competition, they seem logical.

The engines will first debut in the coupes 328Ci and 335Ci this summer, and then as of september the 07 sedans will be out with the same engines.

08 makes more sense than 07. i rather doubt that it will happen in 2007. it's just too soon.
but then again, 250 is pretty weak to go against with 328i that BMW would be replacing their 325i s.
hope 350 doesnt goes to 400 or i will have to trade my car in!
