my case might be a little bit different, my nano is exclusive to my is350 so that where it stays 24/7. i leave it on the charger constantly (it only get recharged when the car is on) and battery on it is just fine as it has been with other ipods i have used in the past. you are free to charge the battery whenever you like as often as you like, there is no harm. before i got my current setup (without the car charger), my nano battery would show red every 2 or 3 days and i had to take it inside the house for charging which was a pain.

you can use any mp3 player that you can get to connect. although i strongly suggest you switch to an apple ipod if you don't already have one.

I've hooked up an Archos AV 700 100GB PMP to the AUX-in. It works fine.

Any device with a standard 1/8" stereo mini-plug output (Read: headphone jack) will work with the AUX-in on the vehicle. And for that matter, any device which provides line-level output will work also with the correct adapters.

You're just seeing a lot of people with iPod's because of Apple's prevalence in the portable media market. Heck, I finally broke down during this summer and bought my first Apple iPod (Nano). But you can use whatever you want (e.g. Creative Zen, iRiver's, etc). Even my old Sharp MDS-200 MiniDisc recorder will hook up to the AUX-in.

Cheers,
Kermee

hehe, like i said if you can get it to connect, it will work. i've connected cellphones, pdas, camcorders, mp3 players, anything will work (with a standard jack) but all you will hear is the audio. that is the definition of "auxillary". don't worry, you shouldn't have any electrical problems.

edit: added the word "shouldn't" since there are no guarantees.

Like kensteele said, you won't run into electrical problems...

... unless you have a flux-capacitor in your car somewhere.

Although it would have been cool to have an iPod hookup using the dock connector like in other makes, I think Lexus did the right thing by not limiting the IS drivers to iPods .

This will be especially good if the iPod ever dies out.

I got the cable from Radio Shack, but the volume on the car radio has to be up in the 40’s for me to hear it? Is this normal? I have the volume on the MP3 player up all the way. Would appreciate any help.

I'm not using the cable from RS, but I can hear the music with 22 with the volume.
The volume on my NANO is up all the way.
