Default XM Port Install

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to Lexus in general as I have a 2006 Civic SI on order. That is until I drove the new IS. Needless to say, my SI order has been cancelled and I now have a Glacier Frost Mica IS250 with Nav arriving on 12/1!!!!! My question is about the XM radio option. I had been told that XM wouldn't be available until next year sometime but the dealer I ordered it from said that he was just advised that they are going to do a port install of the XM parts at the port when it arrives. I guess I was wondering if anyone else has had a port install in the past and also, where is the XM antenna going to be located. Thanks in advance for your help!

Port installed satellite units are excellent because they provide better sound quality and the satellite info is shown on your stereo or nav system, unlike having a FM modulated system, cassette integrated system, or Aux input. However, this is quite pricey, as most port installed satellite systems cost about $500. If you want to save money, you can get a Roady2 XM Satellite reciever for $20 on eBay. Satellite info is not integrated into the stereo/nav system, and sound quality is compromised.

The antenna is usually on the trunk door beneath the rear window. I don't know of any satellite systems that integrate their reception with the antenna of the car. The IS is antenna-less, and so the satellite antenna may not be integrated.

Default Xm

I really appreciate the response. I got my XM port install at $480 which is ok with me. I have a skyfi in my company car and I wanted the xm integrated so I didn't have to have any clutter in the car. Do you know if there is any advantage to having it installed at the port of entry rather than the dealership other than cost. The dealership said that if they installed it, it would cost $700 to $800. I was also wondering if the quality of the install might be better at the port. The dealership said they hadn't installed too many of these so I didn't really want to be their guinea pig. Thanks again,
Sean
