Default IS300 Maintenance Upselling Question

I've got an IS 300 sport that I have had since new. Love it. Have never had a single problem with it. I have only had to do the routine maintenance on it. Oil change, tire rotation, etc. I brought it in to the dealer today for a 30,000 mile check up and was told that it would be $570. Fine. A couple hours after dropping it off, the service manager calls me and says that they recommend changing the cabin air filter for $80 and doing fuel injector service for $130. I declined. Anybody have any experience with this? Are they just upselling me? Although I love the car, the salesman tried to jam me when I bought it, so I am a little suspect of the dealership in general. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks. Michael

My prior Lexus service center tried to do that to me. I asked them to quit trying to "upsell" extra service, they kept putting "Customer Declined Lexus Recommended Service" on the work order, which was BS. So then they changed it to "Customer Declined Dealer Recommended Service". Again, total BS. So I took my business elsewhere.

A few service periods later, the first service dept calls, asking why I haven't brought my car in for a while. I told them I didn't approve of their practices, and am taking my vehicle elsewhere. They said they would "look into it" and call me back. They never did. Their loss.

I do have my IS 350 ordered thru them, but I won't take it to them for service.

Even if you're not willing to do some of the maintenance yourself (for example, replacing the air filter) you should be able to find a dealer locally that will do it for less than the prices you were given. Perhaps ask in the maintenance section of CL? Replacing the cabin air filter should be a 10 minute job.

some dealer do try the upselling, so be careful...
as for the interior AC filter, it does need to be changed once in awhile, but $80 is high
irontoad.com sells factory filters for $16 and you can change it yourself

Thanks for the irontoald website. Didn't know that they existed. How often do people change the interior air filter? It would frost me to have to pay $80 for one!

The interior air filter at best takes about 5-to 10 minutes to changed out, its just a matter of pulling the glove compartment down ( slightly squeeze in the hinges ) pull the old filter out, and replacing it.
