So when does everyone plan on purchasing their IS? Maybe right when it comes out, or you'll wait a few months, or wait for the 2nd model year, or wait for coupe/convertible/IS460/hybrid, or maybe not get one at all?

I'll wait until the 2nd model year. I know that Lexus build quality is second-to-none, but with all the new design and technology in this car, I'd rather wait until small idiosyncrasies are ironed out.

I just wish pricing wasn't so hush hush right now. My dealership has VIN's but no pricing. Not until 10-14-2005.

I'm getting one as soon as it comes out, but I'll have to wait 3 months for the options I want.

Learn from the 1st IS

Wait until the 2nd or 3rd year.
2nd year had the manual tranny
The 3rd year had a lot of options (SportDesign / LSD)

just wait.

Do you actually think they wait until the next model year before they fix design/production problems?

Well... we have 2 (count em, 2) 2006, first-year production Lexus GS's; one 300 AWD and one 430. The 430 has 8300 miles on it, the 300 has just under 5000, and we have had zero problems with either or. They're both fully loaded (300 doesn't have PDC though), 430 has PCS, PDC, etc. The only problem we had with the 430 was the tire pressure sensor went off because the major climate change (85 last monday & tuesday, 55 that following wednesday for highs) screwed up the air pressure. Fixed for free at your local gas station that offers "free air".

With Lexus being a Japanese car company and using Japanese electronics, I have no worries about the first year problems that other manufacturers encounter.

Don;t tell me, tell guys like DingDingDo. I've never had a problem with 1st year Lexus vehicles.
