This just in...October's Motor Trend clocked the IS going 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, doing the quarter in 14.0@99.8mph. They say despite the large advantage in acceleration, for an all-out driver's car, it's still the 330i. Their complaints are too many electronics and no stick. No scanner, but I'll post a pic in a few.

Ok. my scanner's pissing me off, my camera won't take pics of the tect, so you guys are just gonna have to trust me on this.
"There are few complaints about the exterior design. The face carries the new Lexus family stare, and the car is wider, a bit longer, and more substantial looking than the model it replaces. It also has fewer lines stamped into it than the Bavarian rival and, to our eyes, is better for it. While 17-inch rolling stock is standard, 18s are avaliable as part of a sport suspension package or as a stand-alone option."
"'Butter smooth' describes the IS 350's V-6 and, as you can gather from its 5.5 0-to-60 times, it's quicker than just quick. This is a full second faster than a 330i and the 280-horse G35. The six-speed auto is a worthy partner; shifts are crisp without being harsh in Drive mode or when playing the paddles."
And of course...
"The front lacks mechanical grip and fades to understeer all too soon. There's not nearly enough organic feel and feedback from the electronic steering."
This is of cuorse followed by a (long) comment about how VDIM is too intrusive and knocks off too much power/throttle, but does do a good job keeping you safe.

Found this on the Motorweek website.

2006 Lexus IS
IS 250: 2.5-liter V6
204 hp
IS 350: 3.5-liter V6
306 hp
Starting around $30,000
When the trendy, compact IS 300 sedan was introduced for 2001, it stood apart from the other Lexus models. While it drew younger buyers to the brand, few stayed. The edgy IS was just too different from other, more conservative Lexus designs. So for 2006, Lexus has completely reworked the IS, making it more in tune with the brand's upscale character, while still able to compete with Euro-offerings like the new BMW 3-Series.
To challenge such performance and sophistication, the 2nd generation IS is based on the excellent chassis of the all-new GS sedan. The long hood, short tail profile are still familiar, but the front end also shows GS kinship, albeit with a deeper, sportier take.
Replacing the IS 300's 3.0-liter inline-6 are two V6's, a 204 horsepower 2.5-liter for the IS 250, and 306 horsepower 3.5-liter for the IS 350. The 250 gets either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, while the 350 is automatic only. Plus the rear drive IS 250 can also be equipped with automatic all-wheel-drive.
In keeping with the more upscale image, the IS's new interior has less trick and more sophistication, one that offers all the expected Lexus amenities, from wood trim to heated and ventilated seats, to high end audio.
"The new IS has certainly matured from the previous generation and it's more in line now with the rest of the Lexus lineup. But the sporting characteristics are still there, which should keep it in good competition with its German rivals." Brian Robinson
The 2006 Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 will arrive in Lexus dealers this October, with prices starting around $30,000. "

08-15-05, 10:04 AM Flipside909: Okay to be fair...faster than a comparable G35 automatic. There how about that?
Okay it's not faster than 5.5 sec but it's 0.1 seconds faster than what Lexus quoted, so lets talk anyway. A 306 hp 6spd automatic car is as fast if not faster than an 05 G35 Coupe 6MT w/298 HP just a 8hp difference. We can only imagine and hope what an IS350 w/a 6MT could do and how much further it would leave a G35 6MT behind.

I'm all for them offering a 6MT, if they offer one in the future ( & a coupe better still), there's a good likelihood that a new IS will be the replacement for my G35c

Oh btw, the 0-60 at 5.5 sec time for the G35c 6MT is a pre-2005 version with 280 hp & 270 lb.ft. torque. The 05 has 298 hp. & a reduced torque figure of 260.

Edit: The 2GR-FSE is running 306 HP & 277 ft/lb torque. The New IS obviously has just a tad more HP and torque than the pre 05 VQ35 and 05 and newer...but the IS350 is still the underdog with an automatic tranny.

5.5s...nice...exactly my estimate half a year ago (wish I can find my post predicting it).
Now I predict the manual IS350 to run 0-60mph in 5.2s (IF the car ever comes out).

The fastest pre-2005 G35 coupe 6MT times was 5.5 sec. 0-60 and 14.2 in the 1/4 mile, it's by Car & Driver, I' ve checked a couple of forums for this. Can't find an online link though, anyone interested can look up C & D magazines. It's the test result of a comparison in a Car & Driver issue that came out around March 2003.

Attention Everyone:
It appears my first post about Motorweek's Upcoming Show got mixed into Jet 864's Post!!!
Just want to clarify this.....My post specifically says Motorweek Upcoming show in Oct 2005.
Jet864's post: Quote: October's Motor Trend clocked the IS going 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, doing the quarter in 14.0@99.8mph"
Am I the only one that caught that? I think this is 2 separate shows.
