Default NEW PICTURES...in person

At carspyshots.net there is someone who lives in San Diego, and the Lexus crew was there doing some stuff and were headed towards Austin, Texas, so if anyone lives there be on the look out...here is what he had to say...and here are the pictures

"The story behind this is that a Friend told me he'd seen a Lexus IS in La Jolla, I had time today so I meandered around and came across two "Toyota Racing Technology" trucks, I parked right across the street from the last Lexus IS left to load and snaped off about 40 pics. during my barrage, a Worker came up and made small talk with me, informing me that the pictures had no value as the car was already public, I told him I knew and I just liked to take pictures. He then started talking about Brenda Priddy, apparently she'd been out there testing with them and me photographin ghte car had reminded him of her, I said I'd dealt with her in the past and really respected her work and wished I could have met her. We then started talking about the colors (joking about a Lime green IS) and he mentioned their next stop is Austin Texas. If it's anything like the setting here, It will be in a POSH community at a premier resort."

Very nice. And I know this has been mentioned before, but the headlights do seem to be really dark, almost like they are smoked.

this is what he has to say about LEDs

"The lights seem NOT to be LED, but Lexus has a way of mixing LEDs and lamps so that it looks like a regular brake light, but has the fast, bright response of an LED. "

...then later he changes his mind...

"reviewing a low-quality video I have I'd say they are LED, they light up very quickly and sudenly, they don't brighten"

Yup headlights are definetely smoked.

I think it depends on the package or color choice. But maybe they changed them overall since the introduction in Geneva. God knows.

I have noticed the folded mirrors. Does that mean it will have automatic folding?

NICE, Thanks for the pics, this is what I like real world in person photos.

This is the weakest part of the whole car, the rear below the emblems I just don't like, why did the bumper have to be so tall? Otherwise everything else is perfect.

I gotta agree. The new IS looks like a box from straight behind. Not appealing at all. I guess it was done only to reduce wind drag, as a chopped butt drags less than a round butt.

The best example would be MB's recent study of a fish-body car, the bionic concept:

It has a drag coefficient of only 0.19 Cd!! Then look at that butt and you get the idea (looks just like the IS's doesn't it?).

The same reason the new TL have a chopped butt I think, but he's talking about the tall bumper, but it's the same for my G35 coupe too & they both looks fine to me. My complain of the new IS from this angle is that it looks too square.

True...but both the TL and the G35 end up with higher Cd values. Look at that bionic concept...the butt is a perfect square!! The square shape must be doing something right.

I don't think it's only the butt that affects the Cd though, the LS does not have a chopped off square butt like the new IS & still has the lowest Cd . . .

Of course there are many more areas that affect the Cd, but every little bit counts. The fact that the bionic concept as a study of aerodynamics chose to use a perfectly square butt must mean the shape does contribute to a lower Cd.

And the LS does have the squarest butt in its class if you noticed.
