Default Final power numbers for the IS250?

I wonder what the final power numbers for the IS250 will be. Could it be substantially more than 200 hp/180 torque?

Its chief competitor in Japan will be the Skyline 250GT sedan with the 2.5L VQ, and that car makes 215 hp/201 torque.

I've got the New IS brochure from Lexus Europe and it is WRITTEN that the power will be 204 HP@6400 rpm. If you go and visit www.lexus.jp web site, you 'll get the same figures. I see no reason why Lexus would change it.

It is possible that the US spec may get a few more hp, but even if it does, probably won't be much more than 204hp.

I guess the numbers on paper don't reflect how the car would drive. I'm waiting to test drive both IS250 MT / 350 Auto to see the real-life experience regardless of the numbers.

Actually, that same 2.5L GR engine in MarkX and Crown in Japan is already making 215ps.

I dont know if chief competitor will be Skyline actually, since Toyota has 2 other RWD sedans comparable, which are currently best sellers. IS will probably be priced a lot higher and hence wont compete directly.

Another reason IS350 might be so powerful could be the fact that 3.5l GR engine is not available in Japan, so competing Crown and Mark X sedans will be powered by significantly slower 3.0l GR with 256ps, and there will be an clear advantage to IS350.

I was reading on another forum, where the Crown battled the Nissan Fuga (M35/45), Honda Legend (RL) and some other car. It fared VERy well.

Not quite true, in Japan, the GS comes with the 3.5l, the V6 3.0 l is not an available option.

does it really now? You know you are talking about the future, right? Currently, 3.5L is NOT sold in Japan, and will probably be reserved for Lexus to present an advantage as compared to 3.0 GR in Toyota vehicles.

GS and IS will go on sale at the same time in Japan...

I thought everything in here is about future.

GS350 and IS350 will have differently tuned versions of the same GR 3.5L V6.

You will eventually see that GR in some form in a lot of vehicles. As I said before - Toiyota/Lexus version of the Nissan VQ.

eh, Toyota did this long time before Nissan started doing it with VQ, from down below with ZZ series engines (1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 1.8vvtli), to V6's that were used all around the place. :-).

Toyota's goal is to have 6-7 different platforms and 6-7 different engine series to optimize costs. Even now, ZZ series engines probably sell in some +2,000,000 copies per year.

Nothing really new there, Toyota has been doing that for a long time now.

Yes the GR series engines started with the 1GR-FE in the 4Runner. Like spwolf said, this is nothing new to Toyota. They've done this with many lines. The only difference Toyota has in comparison to Nissan, there is actual displacement variation, unlike one 3.5L V6 used in every car that they literally have.
