Default IS350 price guessing revisited

IS350:

Standard Equipment

- 300+ hp/ 275+ torque 3.5 V6 engine
- SmartAccess with push-button start
- Optitron Instrument Cluster
- Power Tilt/Telescopic Steering Wheel
- Steering-wheel-mounted Cruise Control, Audio and Display Controls
- Bluetooth® technology
- 10-Way power seats with memory for driver and passenger
- Wood and/or Metal trim interior
- Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control
- Mini Plug accessory connector
- Illuminated Scuff Plates on door sills
- AM/FM/CD, 13-speaker audio system
- Ten airbags, including a first-in-segment double knee airbag
- VDIM

Optional Equipment

- Mooroof
- Ventilated Front Seats with multistage fans
- Touch Screen-Voice Activated DVD Navigation System
- Mark Levinson Premium Surround Audio System
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Intuitive Parking Assist
- Rain-sensing Windshield Wipers with Headlamp Washers
- Power rear-window sunshade
- XM® Satellite Radio capability
- Lexus Pre-Collision System (PCS)
- Intelligent Adaptive Front Lighting System (I-AFS)
- Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management System (VDIM)

------------------------------------

Here is what those options cost on the GS300, and the option prices will probably be the same or very similar for the IS350:

- Moonroof: $1000
- Ventilated Front Seats with multistage fans: $200
- Adaptive Front Lighting + Rain-sensing Wipers with Headlamp Washers: $525
- Intuitive Parking Assist: $500
- Power rear-window sunshade: $210
- XM® Satellite Radio capability: $400 (dealer installed on the GS)
- DVD Navigation System + Mark Levinson Premium Surround Audio: $4030
- Lexus Pre-Collision System (PCS) + Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): $2800

Options total: $9665

The base price of the GS300 is $43,550.

Seeing as how the IS350 will have ALL the standard features of the GS300 ($43,550 base), and in ADDITION will have 55+ more horsepower and VDIM, I'd say that $36,000 base price is pretty optimistic. Even at $36,000 base, a fully loaded IS350 will be nearly $46,000.

However, most IS350s will probably not have PCS, since the vast majority of GS300s do not.

Question

What about the differences in standard equipment between IS350 and IS250? Usually the high-end trim would have some standard equipment that's optional on the lower trim.

As you can see, the options list for the IS250 and IS350 are virtually the same.

Notice I didn't even add in the Sport package, which will probably be at least $1500, to those prices.

Except that VDIM is STD on the IS350, optional on the IS250. And I will suspect that moonroof may also be standard on the IS350 as well.

But a sticker at $30,999 for IS250 and $37,999 sticker for the IS350 are my predictions. Dunno tho' but I'd wager that the base list price for the IS350 is at least $7K higher than the IS250.

If that is true, I will be really upset. I was expecting a fully loaded (all options available) IS350 to be $42 at the most. I'd be willing to fork out another $1000 for the sport option but $46 seems a little too high.

I really hope that I'm wrong and Lexus will surprise us with lower prices.

The $46,000 fully loaded price is a little misleading though, since most probably won't be equipped with the PCS. Without PCS/Adaptive Cruise, the price will be more like $43,000.

The question is, will they pair Adaptive Cruise with PCS, like they do with the GS?

The main reason I think Lexus will get super aggresive with the pricing is they want to take 3 buyers away and I have heard they expect/want to sell 40k ISs from Sept-Dec.

I dunno, a moonroof isn't even standard on the GS430. Although practically speaking, almost all GS's have a moonroof.

Wow where have you heard that ? I don't think even the RX330 have sold that many in any 3 month period, I doubt that 's realistic . . .

I'm really seriously considering getting the IS350 (2nd year) and I already have a hard time accepting that I will probably pay $42K for a loaded IS350 but that is about my level of tolorance. If that price really does jump up to $46K, I'm sorry but I'll just save up a little longer and pay the extra $10K for the GS430. There is no way I'll pay $46K for an IS no matter how much HP it has. I'm sure it will be no more than $42K loaded though so hopefully your estimates are incorrect. Fortunately for me though there is no XM sat radio service so that saves me $500, and I wont get the PCS and IPA so I'm hoping I can get one for under $40K. Also, I want navigation, but so far only Acura offers navigation in my state to hopefully Lexus will catch up and offer it as well. If not that is another 2-4k I'll save.

I don't get that either. The Lexus VP said he estimates 45,000 sales per year.

Hopefully that is a sign they will price the IS much lower than the competition. If they really want to sell 45K units, the IS250 better be $30K tops and the while the IS350 will get much less sales, it better be under $40K loaded. The lack of a manual in the IS350 will limit it sales. While the IS250 has it, the performance numbers don't seem all the impressive. If they are going after the BMW 3 series they only way I see them winning the battle is with a good price.

Well, the one thing we know that is anywhere close to "official" about pricing is that the Lexus VP said that the IS250 will be close in price to the current IS300. The 2005 IS300 auto starts at $31,650.

So, I think it's pretty fair to say that the IS250 auto will start at around $32,000.

The price difference between a GS300 base and a GS430 base is $8225.

It seems reasonable to me to add at least $4000 for the IS350, hence the $36,000 base.

Hey when I got it too, I was like but its solid.

I'll also throw out there, Porsche owner(s) have checked out the IS 350s suspension and are like at it (these guys race).

Lexus has never chased sales but does put out their projections. The market clearly responds when Lexus puts out a product near or tops in class. The ES and LS sell well and are near sales leaders. The GS is third with sales and close to 2nd (only 400 monthly units behind the E). The RX is by far the luxury SUV sales leader.

If Lexus can sell 70k ES 300s, one way, I can see them selling evetually 70k IS sedan/coupe/converts/hybrids eventually.
