> 300 HP for a 3.5 V6 ! What is happening with LEXUS
When compared to Lexus competitors, more than 300 HP for a 3.5liter V6 is quite impressive. Lexus did impressed me this time. Compared to the 2005 IS with 215 HP that's quite a huge jump.
We are now talking Porsche class:
- Carrera 911flat 6 3.6 liter delivers 325 HP.
- Boxster S 3.2 liter deleivers 280 HP.
BMW 3.0 6L with 258 HP (new 330i)
Audi 3.2 l V6 HP : 250 PS
Alfa romeo 3.2 V6 : 240 PS
Mercedes 3.5 l V6 delivers 268 PS
Despite its heavy body, we should expect amazing performances. I guess the next target for a 'Lexus Motorsport' badged IS350 'R' will be the BMW M3 with 333 PS and 0-100 in 4.8 secs.

Its just a wild guess by me, but by the time Lexus comes out with the IS 350 "R" or "GT" or
whatever name they decided to use.
M3 will probably be equipped with a V8 with around
400 horses. Since the A4 and AMG C class already have V8s.
I might be totally 100% wrong .............

It's not really a huge surprise to me, I think they have too, since the Infiniti G35 6MT(Nissan Skyline 350) - which you guys don't have in France I think, already have 298 hp . . .

300 HP @6400 rpm
torque : 353 NM @ 4800 (quite high rev)
0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 sec.
IS350 figures could be pretty close.

While we're on this subject, allow me to cross-post my comparison from another thread regarding torque numbers:
Lexus has said in the PR that the IS350 will have "over" 275 lb-ft, which is better than:
1. 260 lb-ft @ 4700rpm in the Avalon
2. 270 lb-ft @ 4800rpm in the G35
3. 260 lb-ft @ 5000rpm in the RL
4. 258 lb-ft @ 5000rpm in the E350
5. 274 lb-ft @ 4800rpm in the 350Z
6. 262 lb-ft @ 4900rpm in the M3
And given that the RPM at which the peak torque is achieved is usually fixed no matter how much horsepower an engine is tuned to, I'd say the IS350 gets its 275+ lb-ft at the same 4700rpm as the Avalon, which means that the IS350 will pretty much own everything as far as 6-cylinder engines go.

It "could" be used in anything from the Camry on up through half of the Lexus line. Also its already in Toyota trucks with 4.0L.

I was just reading the latest issue of Motortrend Mag at Barnes & Noble today and there is a full page ad about the upcoming IS. Motortrend doesn't have the latest news because they were quoting the IS 350 to have exactly 280 hp. Either that went to press before the NY auto show or Motortrend is out of the loop.
It was cool though to see a full page ad about the IS with several pics and lengthy write up.
I also noticed in same issue they have road tested the new GS300 and also did road comparion of the GS430 & Infiniti. They favored the Infiniti with that comparion.
Edit:
I see they have video on there website of the new IS
