I know I know..... this topic has been covered so many times already. I just think it is crap that Lexus just didn't recall this problem many years back. I just deal with it. Just wanted to rant a bit.... thx for listening guys & girls.

Lol, it's quite alright. I tend to have misplaced anger at the dash from time to time myself, being that it's the only eyesore when you look at the car.

They sell used dashes that doesn't have the sticky dash. I just swapped out my dash. Not so difficult but I paid the shop to do it. Costed $250 for dash n labor. Totally worth it. No more sticky dash!

Is it specific years that have this issue?
I have an 05 and so far the dash is fine, is this something I should be concerned about in the future?

I have an '04 IS300. Park inside almost 90% of the time (work and home). I have approx 130k miles now..... But it got sticky probably about 70k miles or so. How many miles do you have now? Does it feel soft?

The dash is thought to get sticky after someone uses a dressing like armor all. Mine didn't get sticky until after a body shop used some sort of dressing on my 03 dash in 09. Heat seems to accelerate the process once it has been exposed to a protectant/dressing. It seems that 2001 is the only year that isn't affected since they didn't have that rubberized paint.

Yup, the 01 is the only one not affected by the issue. You can just strip the crap, paint with vinyl paint and it'll look as good as new.

Some choose to wrap it in vinyl. That's what I'm going to do.

While it did take some work...I was able to remove the black sticky residue with Goo-Gone and a few Armor-All "Cleaning wipes". I typically do not use Armor-All but these did seem to work well behind the Goo-Gone. Just my 2cents worth - esp. since I'm too cheap to remove, strip, spray and reinstall.

Looks perfect...but it wasn't without effort. I figured out that the Goo-Gone was cheap so I applied it quite liberally. I also seem to remember something unusual about the tan portion below the black (this was a couple of years ago). If I remember correctly, the Goo-Gone was capable of removing the tan paint as well. I simply had to be more cautious where the two meet above the glove box. I don't have pics and will try to snap a few sometime in the next few days but doubt much can be seen since it looks the same as it did (without scratches in the slime that once was). This was a last ditch - CHEAP - attempt to remedy the problem for me since it was quite an eye sore. I figured it couldn't worsen the problem and it did work for me.

It's not primered or dull gray underneath? If I can just remove the crap while looking stock, I'd much rather do that.

I can not attest to any dash other than mine as I have no other experience. However, I can tell you mine looks the same only without the sticky residue (2002). I tried a small section close to the passenger vent, saw it was going to work...and the rest was elbow grease history.
