Default Red tint taillights. Illegal?

Sup CL i just got pulled over twice recently for tinted tailights. So i went and bought myself new tailights and I want to get the red pre-cut tint for them. Any idea if getting the red tint is illegal? Or if anyone has had the red tint and gotten pulled over? I dont want to risk getting another pointless fix-it ticket. Im in California also. Thanks in advance

granted im in ohio, but ive not heard or had any issues with the red tint on clear lights. ive had em and so have a bunch of my friends. the main reason why i cant see having any issues with it is because the absolute stock/factory color for taillights is the clear red, despite these not being red to begin with, there should be no issues

As long as you have red rear reflectors (they don't necessarily have to be in the tail lights), and brakes illuminate in red, it should be fine.
