New IS owner, question about exhaust leak and Codes
Hello,
I just recently purchased a 2001 IS300. Its a great car except for a little trouble im having. The check engine light was on when i bought it. I was told by the former owner it was a faulty o2 sensor. It was originally bought to be a project so i wasnt too worried about it at the time. Due to a change in circumstances, it now needs to become my daily driver. I had the codes scanned yesterday and got:
PO161- bank2, sensor2 o2
PO155- bank 2, sensor1 o2
PO125- Thermostat or CTS
Ive been reading everything i can about these codes and found that usually the PO125 code will be resolved once the B2S1 o2 sensor is replaced. However, i do detect i small exhaust leak somewhere as on a couple occasions yesterday and today i could smell exhaust in the car.
My question is, seeing that both errors for o2 sensors are on the same bank, if the manifold or gasket was leaking would that possibly throw those codes? Im a broke guy at the moment and dont have the money or time to just throw parts at it right now as my temp tags are soon to expire.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just need to get the car through emissions so i can get my reg plates.
Thank you,
Matt

Yeah, im going to have to do that first. I bought it planning to swap the motor so i really just bought it for a chassis. I pulled the heat shield of off it and its an aftermarket header. I cant make out the brand sticker to well but it looked like VTS or UTS. Thats about all i can make out unfortunately. Im now wondering if im going to have to go the o2 sim route. Unfortunately 13+ hour work days and a baby dont leave much time for car working anymore lol

If it is a cheaper aftermarket header I wouldn't be surprised if it had problems with cracking and sealing to the head properly. If you don't mind having cats on the car, I'd throw a stock manifold back on it if you can find a cheap one. Those 2JZ manifolds are not very restrictive compared to most stockers. But then again if you are only going to use the chassis.....
