Default Did a simple drain and fill on transmission...

As a favor, I drained a friend's 2005 IS300 automatic transmission and refilled with Toyota Type IV fluid, and the dipstick indicated that it's overfilled.

It's a straightforward job I've done before, and I'm positive I drained the transmission and I let it drain warm to hot for about 30 minutes until only single drops were coming out (it was on a level surface). It was clearly red fluid that came out.

I put a little less than 2 1/4 quarts in, yet the dipstick has the level about a third to a half an inch above the top "hot" mark. I checked about a week later, and it was still there.

My question is, is this something that needs to be corrected immediately, or is it within the margin of error? And why is it off?

Thanks

I think I figured it out. To get the proper reading, does it need to be both running and hot? I was taking the measurement after it had been parked for about 30 minutes.

yes, running, hot and in park or neutral... almost all auto trans are the same in this aspect...
