Yes that will work to help avoid getting stuck, it just wont help much for braking.

Yeah it will get you moving.....
But turning and stopping are also very important if not more important than moving....

so i went to discount tires, they wouldn't mount my 225/50/17 because they say it will rub. is that true? i bought 4 of them from a local guy. i forgot to clarify to you guys that it was all around specs. im not even dropped, its stock height. shouldn't it still fit just fine? if the front wont work, will the rears at least work?

If they don't want your business, just take it to someone else who will take your money.
It shouldn't rub.

And FYI - To further prove to what we were saying earlier in this thread:

I have 2 winter wheels (stock supra wheels with nice winter tires) on the back of my IS300.
And I still have my 19" wheels with sport tires on the front, because I have not had time to put all 4 winter wheels on yet...

Today on the way to work - in the icy cold rainy weather, driving on the highway 70mph plus.
Every time I hit the brakes I could feel my front sliding a little... scary stuff LOL
So yeah, you need all 4 winter wheels if you want to be safe.....
